Vickii Lett from NPWS has passed this on to a few of us via email and I think it a great Idea and passing it onto you aswell.

Hi

A group of us have been talking about setting up a central point for adventure conservationists to hear about activities in our national parks, regional communities and landcare generally. I do not have time to do the organisational approach and so thought we should just start with facebook. Can you circulate this through your networks (bushcare, landcare, canoeing, bushwalking, mountain biking, fishing, 4WD, climbing) and ask members involved in conservation to become our friend and promote the facebook page to their friends and can trip organisers, landcare and bushcare coordinators add their groups activities to the events I will load the Blue Mountains National Parks volunteer calendar latter today.

Landcare and NPWS contacts who have a little more savvy with facebook might like to play with the facebook group to get their facebook entries and events to also show in this group.

What is adventure conservation?
Adventure conservation is fun, challenging and takes place in wild places. It delivers important conservation outcomes that could not be done by conventional paid staff because it is too expensive or logistically impossible”. “Volunteers can find activities that suit a broad range of ages, fitness levels, conservation skills and wilderness experience. But they all have one thing in common they can be done by people who care about wild places and want to protect them for future generations”

What we would like to do is give Australians volunteering locally the opportunity to try something different or a little more adventurous and qualify them to do even more adventurous activities if they want or just visit regional Australia as part of the Landcare family, and through their volunteering get access to places not normally open to the public.

A community facebook page has been set up to use instead of using the group facebook page.
