Not happy with SCOTT

So I was out ridding with BLKFOZ the other day doing a simple ride out to Gross Head Lookout. I popped my spark 60 over a few simple water bars and snapped the rear chainstay. I didn’t stack and the bike is still under warranty so at this point I wasn’t too annoyed.

I bought the bike from Fraser Cycles at Taren Point and have been getting it serviced at Blackmans at Penrith. (Dont get me wrong The Spark had been a good bike and Frasers did a good deal). Seeing as though I live closer to Penrith I thought I'd give Blackmans a call for the warranty work. Unfortunately Blackmans advised me that Scott have changed their distributor and they no longer deal with Scott bikes. So I sighed at the thought of having to drive back to Taren Point and called Fraser Cycles. They said “Yeah, no worries, just bring it down.” So I later loaded the bike up, battled the traffic and paid the tolls to get to Taren Point. I dropped the bike off and they said they'd look after it and give me a call when its fixed.

So today I get a call from Frasers today again advising that they also no longer deal with Scott due to their change of distributor. They said that they phoned Scott and that Scott refused to repair the bike as Frasers no longer deals with Scott bikes. I was told I would have to pick up the bike and take it to an Avanti dealer to fix the chainstay with the closest Avanti dealer to me being in freaking Liverpool!

I've gotten the royal run around and I'm not happy!!! Hopefully its actually going to get fixed instead of everyone passing the buck...

Dave - I think the key here is "I bought the bike from Fraser Cycles at Taren Point"
They are responsible for providing warranty for a producu they have sold.
Whether or not they deal with Scott anymore is not your problem. They sold the bike with a warranty, therefore it's up to them to sort it out.

From Fair Trading NSW

"What if the supplier refuses or takes too long to repair the goods?

If they refuse or take more than a reasonable time to repair the goods, you can:

* take the goods elsewhere to be fixed and ask the original supplier to pay reasonable costs of this repair
* reject the goods and ask for a refund, or
* reject the goods and ask for a replacement, if one is reasonably available.

Good Luck

Is that reference to Fair Trading for all goods. I'm in the motor industry and I know that when you hand back or sell a franchise you are no longer able to provide warranty because you are not a recognised reseller of that franchise. If the customer wants warranty they have to take it to a dealership that has that brand.

agreed brian, I did hit them up for the cost of a courier but they said exactly that. sucks arse.

That sucks eh. I'd ring the dealer you have to take it to in advance if you cant get it there for a while to try and speed things on a bit. Might see you on the weekend.

This is a very unsatisfactory way of dealing with things from frasers as far as i am concerned, they should move heaven and earth to get this fixed for you!
I would be firing off a letter to Scott headquarters and letting them know that you will never buy another bike off them again, and promote other people to do the same if you dont get some sort of satisfaction from this.
This is bad, i know Giant and Specialized move heaven and earth when things like this happen, so should Scott as well!

You can't blame Frasers as Dave said they don't deal with Scott any more. I've dealt with Frasers for warranty on my Cannondale and they were great.

So I spent four hours today battling the traffic to get my bike from Taren Point to Liverpool. For those who don't know, the reason for this stuff around is Scott have changed their distributor from Netti to Avanti. As Avanti have taken on Scott bikes only Avanti dealers can do warranty repairs. The problem is though, if the dealer from which you bought the bike does not deal with Avanti, then you have to pay for the labour costs associated with the warranty repair! The guys at ABC bikes in Liverpool said that they'd see what they can do with Avanti with regard to the labour costs but if Avanti refuse to cover the cost then I'm going to fair trading. The boys at Frasers did say that they would fit the part for free if ABC were going to charge for labour but its just such a stuff around driving back and forward. I'll keep ya's updated on what happens next.

Bugger that...thats not on!
Scott have to warranty the whole cost of the job...otherwise its only sort of a warranty.
If the bike shop is half decent they should be able to get scott to cover costs...
if not, they took on the scott dealership so they should cover...either way it shouldnt cost you a cent!
Rant over...sorry
Good luck with it anyway...Hope it works out.

Just to update whats happened I have finally got my bike back. SCOTT replaced my frame with a Spark 40 frame and it looks a little chunkier. I had to pay $161 for the labor costs but at the end of the day, to rip everything off my old frame and put it on the new one the bike has pretty much had a very comprehensive service. At least ive got peace of mind that all the bolts are nipped up, cables and breaks have been tuned, the crank was re conditioned and she's all nice and clean.

Just over a month, guess that's quicker than a car insurance job I had to deal with. I'm sure your glad to be out riding again. Can't believe the hassle you had to go through. So how is it?
