I can confirm Hans's bike looks even better in the flesh. Smiling

Here's what I've been waiting for before going to a 29er, like gazza:

@Gazza

11.4 kg for the 29'er Santa Cruz Tallboy in XL size - and it's got real durable pivots...not flexing carbon chainstays. Smiling

Re: C'dale .... Have they fixed the geometry issues on this year's version of the Scalpel? They had a slightly used Scalpel frame hanging on the wall at KOM (NB) a while ago; and when I inquired, one of the shop guys reckoned it wouldn't be a keeper as they had ongoing shifting problems due to 'chainline /geometry issues' with that year's model. I know - beauty is in the eye of the beholder.... but the 29'er Scalpel in that pic looks to me like an unfinished prototype / test mule.

Below are two interesting articles re development of SC Carbon bikes from Alloy test mules:

Cannondale and carbon. Very fragile from personal experience. 4 months old and 2 cracks.

take those bricks off the end of your cranks and you'll shed a kilo! Eye-wink
I actualy really like the Tall Boy, Its just that i'm a cannondale fan and love the developments the company make. yes, sometimes they break but their claim is to make some of the lightest and most advanced frames and forks, if it wasn't for companies like this pushing the boudaries then we'd all be riding penny Farthings still!

Just for Gazza - and any Cannonddale fan out there...
The new Scalpel 29 will come in four models in 2012, two carbon and two aluminum models.
$US
Scalpel 29er Carbon 1 – $6900
Scalpel 29er Carbon 2 – $4800
Scalpel 29er Alloy 3 – $3000
Scalpel 29er Alloy 4 – $2300

Carbon models are expected to start shipping in November 2011, and aluminum models shipping January 2012. More details coming as quickly as they are available.
Start saving your penny's boys and girls. I assume the 29er Carbon 1 will either be XX or XTR Groupo.
Did someone say 9kg......

ar_junkie's picture

That sounds awesome BF, but is that pricing US or Aus?

c3024446's picture

The 29er Scalpel has a pivot near the bottom bracket, not flexing chainstays like the 26er.

Black Flash's picture

The prices are in US dollars - so thats about 26 cents Australian.
And yes there is a pivot point low down unlike the 26" Scalpel I ride. Mind you seeing it flex kinda freaks me out...

And sorry for hijacking the Niner thread.... They both look like awesome bikes!

Santa.... pretty please....
