*** Update as of 8/10 Time has been changed by 15mins to accomodate for the Sydney train. Its almost certain that we will do St Helena's as well***

Hi Everyone,

A few of us us were chatting last night about training and preparation for the various races and things that we all have happening. This will be my last hit out before the Mont and Fling ... so may as well do a big ride.

Aim is to start the the trail at 8.15am from the Glenbrook Car park station, get to the helipad in 90mins and then take a further 40mins to get to the top. The trip back down is well worth it!- especially after riding up the thing. May detour via St Helena's track if so inclined.

For those of you who have done this before you know what to bring. If you don't make sure that you have enough water and food - there is a tap at the top of the track.

Andrew

I have no idea how I'll go in this but I'll do my best!
I have a feeling you will be doing some waiting for me at the top of some of them hills Lorrie!

I'm thinking about it, but I wouldn't want to go if I'm just going to be holding people up.... we'll see how many jump on this ride....

lorrie's picture

check the train schedule and meet you at the top?

Paul's picture

Andrew I need a big hit out so this suit me fine - I'm a starter.

I also like the idea of adding St Helena's.

Could we move this one to 8:30??? This way I can get there by train.

See you all there.

PS: Also keen to add some more Ks.

Delayed by 15mins

Leo - we will be in the car Park, look for the Blue Falcon.

Am still considering coming....

If I come, will pull up a chair at the top as I'm not capable of St Helenas yet...

Will make the decision tomorrow.

FWIW, it more kays are required I will be voting to skip St Helena. Hit the sniggle then goto Eureka and/or Pisgah and back to the gate and do the sniggle again Smiling

sounds tempting - I haven't done it before. Lets decide on the morning. But there might be a few of us that won't be able to do all the distance so we need to think about that as well.

If you do Helena's.. are you doing it all the way back to the Glenbrook Station carpark?

or just down a bit and then back up?

Will probably pass if you go Helena's all the way back down again...

I can see Pigsah but not Eureka... if you do that.. I can wait at the start/finish (Nepean Lookout Firetrail?) with no dramas, bring a book or something.

Let us know what you'll probably do....

Cheres,

I'm out, as tomorrow has been declared family fun day.
John.

Believe it or not, non-cyclists sometimes think they have something interesting to say!

How much further is Glenbrook from Penrith (time) - as I may join in will only confirm in the morning by txt to Lorrie

Paul's picture

Glenbrook is about the 2nd suburb up the mountains, so 5 or so minutes once you start climbing the mountain, probably 10 minutes past the Penrith turnoff on the M4

Andrew, are we catching the train from Glenbrook at 8.15 or starting to ride from Glenbrook? (the latter: Andersons then Oaks, with St Helenas somewhere in between, yes?)

Can some one confirm the meeting point and time tomorrow, as i hate to see no one turning up!

Sorry this is a bit late, but we are not catching the train tomorrow. From what I know, someone will be arriving on the 8:30 train ready to ride, but catching the train is not part of the ride.

From Glenbrook Station carpark we are going to ride into the National Park, down and up the causeway then all the way up to the top of The Oaks (at Woodford).

From then, we turn round. It's up for debate, but as I've already said, I'd like to not bother with St Helenas and come to the sniggle relatively fresh (if one can be after 40Ks Eye-wink). If someone wants more Km then we can cut over to Eureka Clearing then back to the top of the sniggle for a re-run (or one of the other options down there).

See you there. Station carpark for an 8:30 ride!

Wow just happy to be alive after that ride. Thanks for everyone waiting around for slow me to get up them hills!

I guess I now know what I need to bring on long rides like this! Rob and Paul I'll get some of that gel stuff and pass it onto you on the next ride we do.

Guys no wonder I felt so knackered, we climbed the first 9.5ks to the locked gate in 32 minutes - I don't think I recovered. I thought it was a training ride not a race.

Enjoyed the ride, thanks for the company.
