I am not an XC fan myself, but just happen to pick up the iPad and look at the Red Bull live event not long after this started last night.
For an XC event it kept me quite entertained... Wet slippery conditions caused mahem, especially for the first lap... there were stacks, and mechanical failures.... and the FIRST AUSTRALIAN WIN SINCE 2000 !!!!!!!!

Like F1, the Aussies clearly have the skills but just need a level playing field on horsepower

Yup, Cadel was the last aussie to win a world cup. Obviously that was before he became a lycra clad speedbump ... or a roadie, as they are commonly known ...
I guess there's no hope of things getting safer on the road when even other bike riders say stuff like that.
I thought we were all just cyclists?
I've seen a few derogatory comments about roadies on here over the years.
No need for it whatsoever!
... got home last night after a week away.
How exciting were those last few laps! McConnell reeling them in, and then it coming down to a sprint finish!
On a more sober note, the tricky track was spectacular and awesome for spectators, but a lot of good quality riders got taken out with broken bones. Not just in the super slippery conditions but in the dry practice sessions as well. This is not something I like to see.
