A lot of places could make a claim as being the Mountain Biking mecca of Australia.

Canberra, Newcastle, Cairnes... all have vibrant riding scenes and classic trails, The alpine regions have the epic back country rides and chairlifted DH. Over west trails like Munda Biddi stretch on for kilometer after kilometer after kilometer after kilometer...

But for quality, abundance and variety I still think it's hard to go past my neck of the woods. From groomed XC trails, Gnarly DH, classic All Mountain runs and remote adventure riding, we've got it all.

Add in the close proximity of other great areas like the Blue Mountains and Central West and its hard to get better

After *mummble* years of 4x4, bushwalking and riding I'm still finding stuff I never knew existed.

Sure the purpose built trails are great but I still value the good old exploration ride. Fanging down unknown trails, not really knowing where they go and relying on fading reflexes to keep you rubber side down while grinning like an idiot.

Ok, some days you strike out with a hike a bike day from hell. Some days you get stick laden horror shows ripping parts of bikes, but so often you get great trails in scenary that, if found in Kakadu would be a major tourist attraction.

With that in mind I present a bouncy Go Pro vid of some fun that was had at some time, some where on a trail less traveled...

... agree with the sentiment too. While hand-crafted lap tracks are nice, I'd much rather find ways to link up the various bits of off road riding around Sydney to create the potential for bigger days out. And I have to get back into a bit more exploring out of Sydney.

If only the National Parks would be less restrictive on mountain bikes.

Flynny's picture

None of that was National park

Lucky to live in the region!

With lots of visitation opportunities both outside of the NP system and within. Parks aren't THAT restrictive, save for the problem with catchment, and even there mumble mumble you can walk, run etcetera in nearly all of it.

Taken by a photographer who was granted escorted access for the purpose.

That digression apart, I really do cherish the choice of rides we have. Firetrail this-a-way, singletrack that-a-way, technical over-there, remote experiences all around Smiling

Since our original email a few months ago Flynny I've snuck into your 'hood a fair number of times and I must say I agree with your boast that your neck of the woods has it all, or close to it anyway.

All I need is a GPS unit and I'll be set, I reckon. Topo's are good but no good for on the fly!

Hahahahaha, Newcastle, we have nothing!

Sweet vid!

So Flynny in the name os sharing, any chance of organising a group ride to take in some of these awesome trails.

From the footage looks like some local knowledge is defintely called for.

Great footage !

Fairy1, if you know where to look in Newcastle, well the hunter, there is a lot of good riding. Get in touch with the HuRT guys, they have some massive rides that take in sweet single trail, scenery and adventure.

You just have to be prepared to explore to find it.

Just kidding. I've never been adverse to showing people around Dicko.
My weekends are pretty tied up with family stuff at the moment so I've basically been heading out Mondays.

If people have Mondays free I'd be happy for them to tag along but I wont promise not to get lost for a bit or lead you down one of those hike a bike horrors
