Hi there,
Firstly, I have not done any tours with Escape goat, but have heard from others who have, that they operate a brilliant business!

In regards to the Flinders Ranges, and the Mawson trail, DO IT! I have biked through this area and it is simply wonderful! I worked as a tour guide in the area ( not for escape goat), and have explored on foot/bike/ 4wd... it is a remarkable part of Aust!

A fabulous place to camp/ visit/ explore on bike and on foot in the Flinders ranges are Wilpena pound, which I see is where the tour you attached is starting! Taking a look at the tour you attached here, it looks like you will get to have a good look around and a feel for the area. Taking a tour such as this makes life a lot easier as you do not have the hassle of packing trailer/panniers etc, can ride with just a light day pack, no struggling with heavy bikes up n down some rather gnarly hills!!! And, someone else worries about the meals and water!! The costing is pretty normal for this sort of tour!

Hope you do it, and hope you have a wonderful time!

thanks. No need to convince me about the merits of the Flinders Smiling Have been there a few times with the 4WD and done some walking, but never explored it on the bike. When I went through there last year on the way back from the Ingkerreke race in Alice, we passed the guys doing the leg into Hawker on the Bike SA Mawson Trail ride. Cold, wet and windy day on open roads, so I'm not sure about ever doing the full Mawson ride!
Glad to hear the good reports about Escapegoat, seems they have a really good option for experiencing the heart of the Flinders on mtb.

Will you be calling into Melrose on the way there / back?

Lach's picture

... mmmm. Well, it depends on negotiating a consensus with the touring party, but it will definitely be on the agenda....

Melrose is a MUST. It would be a freaking tragedy if you went to the Flinders Rangers without swinging into Melrose (it's in the Flinders after all). As for Escapegoat I know him from social riding well before he started the business and he's a nice guy. I'm sure you will have fun.

... I've passed through Melrose a couple of times, but never with the bike. Have read a fair bit about the trails though and would love to spend a day or two there. Just need to get the balance right for a likely trip that will include people who don't ride mtb's...... Eye-wink

They'll forgive you in time! If you are travelling with non riders a couple of hours at Melrose would give a much more satisfying fix than riding anywhere else in the Flinders for double the time. Comparing Melrose singletrack vs Flinders is like comparing Kalamunda Singletrack vs The Kep Track.
If you only had a couple of hours to spare, leave your bike at home and hit Melrose and hire a Ibis Ripley, Knolley or Cube http://otesports.com.au/mountain-bike-hire/
