For those unaware, the oaks single track is getting a make over. In particular is the last 2km of single track. Sections in here may be so much fun for a lot of riders but was a major eye sore in the terms of sustainability. If you ever stopped to take a look. Major sand pits where being eroded of the track and deposited far downhill.

Track work is to begin soon so a closure for the last 2km will be in effect as of Tuesday the 11th of March and will remain so until track work is complete.

National Parks have put out the folloing offical statement

National Parks & Wildlife Service
Blue Mountains National Park at Glenbrook

Upgrade works to Woodford Oaks Mountain Bike Trail - section CLOSED

- diversion in place

From: Tuesday 11th March until May 2014 (weather dependent)
A 2km section of the Woodford Oaks Mountain Bike track will be closed from
Tuesday 11th March until May, 2014. This closure will be in place 7 days a
week, while we are undertaking major repair and upgrade works.

CLOSED: - the lower 2km section of the route (single track) - from the
helipad gate (near Euroka Road junction) to the end of the single track at
Glenbrook Causeway car park.

DIVERSIONS: - will be in place, and cyclists will be able to complete the ride
by re-joining the road and exiting at Glenbrook as usual.

Works will address erosion and drainage issues which have developed on this
section of the track. Please follow signs on site.
This is part of our continuing upgrade works in the precinct

For further information please call the NPWS Heritage Centre, Blackheath –
Ph: 4787 8877 - open daily 9am – 4.30pm

To Clarify, the Heli-pad refered to above is is the Glenbrook heli-pad. Not the halfway Heli-pad that most use for a break/regroup.

So the Singletrack from the Mid gate to the Glenbrook Heli-pad firetrail will remain open at this time. When you reach the firetrail take a right and get back onto the main Oaks road for the last 2km.

Great this has been a long time coming.

It has indeed Char. Looks like the two log rollers/drops will be gone as the track will be realigned. Hope they give us back something better.

Not wishing to sound too negative but as a regular user (read 3 times a week) I am REALLY worried about the outcome. I suspect that most "features" will have been removed (i.e. log blips as above and judging by the amount of blue "crosses" last night then a number of interesting rocks and route choices) and that we'll end up with yet another XC single track with very little technical element where thought or skill is required. A shame and I hope very much to be proved wrong.

My initial thoughts were the same Pete. The last 2kms is the fun and interesting bit on the oaks. The bit that made the dusty road ride along the fire rd more worthwhile.

I don't ride it nearly as often as most here but every time I do I look forward to mini Moab and the techi bit.

But if synergy trails are involved I am a lot more positive about it. The little loop they created at OMV is tip top with lots of features including optional stuff the uninitiated clip board carrying bureaucrat would not tend to realise was a ridable line to get upset about

This explains all the blue crosses on the trees. Log offs as some may call them, makes it a fun track.....big shame too lose them.

The log rollers/drop are now gone and the track is smooth for now while construction takes place. Sad

But!! Flowy and as technical as we can be within the IMBA guidelines seems to be the theme. And I too have faith in the builders as Flynny said. OMV is fun.

Tim will post up a report soon.

Great line mate

I hardly ever ride the Oaks but have good memories of the single track
And keep meaning to head down for some single track loops
I feel better as well that those responsible for OMV are upgrading this as well
Please post photos once completed and may be the impetus I need to head down to check it out
