Push to avoid downhill bike track delay - BM Gazette
Article from the Gazette to do with the funding at Knapsack. $12k is a good start to be sure.
Councillors have moved to avoid a nine month delay of the Knapsack Reserve downhill bike track project by withdrawing a requirement for an additional environmental impact report.
Fears a species impact statement (SIS) — requested by councillors in December — could set the project back for so long triggered the decision at last Tuesday’s council meeting.
Downhill track marking
Hello,
I need a hand to mark the proposed downhill course for the environmental inspectors.
Should not take to long I was thinking early Saturday Morning before it gets too hot, you will need pink plumbers tape 4 rolls each, if you are able to buy yourself that would help the cause it's only cheap!
What else not much really you can bring a camera if you like, if anyone intending to come help has a mega long peice of bunting I reckon that would come in handy, we can use that to define the sections as we go photographing then retreiving it and moving it to the next session.
Kingy meets local resident at Knapsack
Quarry decent from lovers walk ran into a resident so I took the opportunity to ask him about mountain biking in the reserve, he opted not to comment how ever he did not have a problem with posing for a photo. lol
The Knapsack Reserve 3hr-6hr-12hr trail race on Australia Day.
Was going to throw this in Tim's competition thread but thought I would keep it seperate.
Was handed an entry to this race at last nights Dirty Tri, I am just throwing it up if it's of any interest to anyone as I have not seen anyone raise it here. A full scale 12 hour albiet running event being held in Knapsack reserve.
There may be an oportunity to work with the organisers and running organisations on trail building suitable for both Running and Riding.
They are marking out a 4.5k loop within Knapsack reserve.
Rock Armouring Examples for reference
I often rant on about rock armouring and how good some of it is at You Yangs near Melbourne. Well I stumbled on some pics I took there recently and thought I'd put them up for reference.
What is so great about this rock work is that it really anchors things together on some quite steep sections, but also is great fun to ride. It is also bi-directional... though up on some this is reserved for the expert rider.
I am sure you can imagine a few of the eroded pinches at Knapsack where an apporach like this would be great for holding everything together yet still maintaing the fun factor.
Port Macquarie example
Just found this via Facebook and thought it could be of interest on several levels, for possible access to funding but also it appears that Council and MTB riders are working together to create an all year round accessible set of trails.
Food for thought.
Competition Event Usage within Knapsack
At the consultation meeting, The issue of "could we make money from the trails" was asked by Macullem.
He was shot down rather quickly as Pay to ride wont work in the area. But WSMTB stated that if they could hold events, there would be a way for the council to make money. But then Chuck shot that down pointing out that the POM states not competitions. Only with an amended POM could competitions be held.
I was just re-reading the Knapsack POM to familiarise myself and came across this
Thanks to everyone for turning up tonight.
Well thanks to everyone for turning up and supporting us at council even though the decision is slill leaving us in limbo for another 3 months.
We are still looking in detail as to what this decision means, but in some ways it is not unexpected Really it doesn't require anything to be done that wasn't going to be done anyway... it is just being handled differently.
.... so thanks again, in the next few days we will have more on what this means and what we have to do. As Malcolm Fraser said "Life wasn't meant to be easy".
