Well I was around Jervis Bay on the weekend and took the SS down in hope of finding somewhere to ride. Stumbled upon the SCUM website, the South Coast United Mountainbikers Inc. and few of their tracks in the forest. In the middle of the family time I got 3 hrs free and hit up the Coondoo trail.

In their words

Located 15 minutes South of Nowra, Coondoo is the original home of SCUM's Endurance races. Originally 6km in length, the course was extended out to 8.5km for Rnd 3 of the 2008 BMC Working Week Series. With a couple of small changes in altitude and plenty of course variation this is one of the jewels in SCUM's crown. Another of SCUM's annual XC race calendar courses as well as being utilised for our four and six hour Endurance events. Single Speeders can choose between a 16 or 18 tooth cog.

And the map

But damn this was a great ride. It was flowy and there seemed to only one up hill which wasn't bad at all really, yet it seemed to always be heading somewhat downwards. The excellent way the contours of the terrain were used to get speed yet not waste altitude was brilliant.

It wasn't technical, just a few log rolls and small log drops, but it was very fast and winding and scribbled all over the place keeping one interested and concentrating at all times. Just enough bermage and decent camber to allow for fast cornering and a nice open terrain to enjoy riding through.

So all in all, definately worth a little diversion if you are in the area. Sorry no photos as I was having so much fun I just never stopped to take any.

There are a few other SCUM tracks in the vicinity I hope to check out next time I am in the area.
