Well it was a little chilly out there but it didn't take long to warm up.

I followed Barnsie up into the single trail and he set a nice pace as we headed up the little climb for the first time. Brett was nipping at my heals and we openned a little gap on the rest of the field.

Then Barnsie jumps off his bike and start running. The angle log had caused him some drama in practice so he choose a safer cyclocross method. I bunny hop he log and almost land on top of him, get shoved wide into the long grass but somehow manage to get around him as he remounts, Brett comes with me.

This is the first time I've ridding the new section in this direction. I was having a ball dipping into the corners and back up, like roller coaster, but with the surface a little loose I was a bit conservative first time around. Brett was riding my wheel so I couldn't back off too much. Barnsie had dropped off and he only did 1 lap so he must have been having bike issues.

we hit the fire road and I'm expecting Brett to power past but somehow I manage to hold the lead into the single trail. By the end of last season I had just about worked out where all the corners were.... Back to square one. I didn't have a clue where I was half the time and those tight little corners kept creeping up on me.

I was trying to up the pace but kept washing out and wiping off speed. Behind me I could hear Brett was having similar issues and I'm pretty sure he was laughing at me too.

Anyway we head up over the log roll overs and I do my best to have a dig up the climb and am surprised that I open up a little gap. Once I have that I just concentrate on holding reasonable pace.

Heading up toward timing for the first time and I've maintained the gap but then the front washes out and I drop the bike. I don't hit the ground myself but in the rush to try and get up and going I get tangled in the bike and drop it again... By the time I get back on Brett is on my wheel again. Laughing.

Bugger I doubt I've got another sprint in me.

Anyway we head out again with Brett hounding my heals. Mid way around lap 2 I catch a break when I hear him skid out and hit the ground "You OK" "Yeah, keep going." cool I've got a little gap again.

Somehow I was able to hold that all the way to the end. Probably the best I've felt on a bike since the end of last twilight series and I thoroughly enjoyed that track configuration.
