Kinglake DH Track Update
Parks Victoria has come to the party!
The Kinglake project is of national significance with the installation of competition level DH Track in Parks Vic tenure as well as the construction of an intermediate level DH and flow track. All with public shuttle access! This project naturally fosters long term community benefits related to recreation and tourism to help revitalise the area after the 2009 Fires.
Mountain Bikers and Wilderness zones
Poaching the link from rotorbrun
An interesting read about mountain bikers and wilderness.
A bit of back ground Wilderness zones in the USA are currently no go for anything but self powered exploration. For some reason MTb falls outside this and is considered mechanical transport (“propelled by a nonliving power source.) however horse riding is allowed.
In NSW wilderness zones are similarly self powered. MTB is allowed on official maintenance trails and other trails (We're talking fire trail here)with the expressed permission from the Head ranger/

Local rider reps met with NPWS last week to discuss where things were at and also talked with contacts in State Government. This has been ongoing since we initially met with NPWS and policy advisors in 2009 http://nobmob.com/node/11175.
We were informed that recent meetings had taken place with Mike Baird (State Treasurer, whom has been helping us last few years) and the Office of Environment (formerly DECCW, under which NPWS resides) and all was positive.
