Hi all,
I currently have mechanical disc brakes (I think on 5inch rotors?) and I am looking to upgrade to hydraulic but not being particularly fast or skillful, I don't want to spend a packet.
I've seen Hayes 9's for $224 delivered and they come with rotors (Front and rear) - either two 6inch ones or an 8inch and a 6 inch.
I know they are budget (anyone got an opinion on them?) which is ok for me until I do get a level of skill that warrants the big buck, but more importantly am I going to see a big enough improvement going to hydraulc and two 6 inch rotors - or should I go with the 8 and the 6?
Another question I've jsut thought of, I am assuming that I can easily replace the rotors and not have to get new wheels?

A set of used HFX-9 Hydro's if you are keen (+ 6" Rotors").
I upgraded recently to Elixir CR's and have these hanging up at home.
Would need new pads on the front soon, and a bleed wouldn't hurt the front either.
Assuming your wheels have the International Standard 6-Bolt, swapping rotors is as easy as taking off the 5" and putting the 6" back on.
You are welcome to 'trial' the HFX's for a week or 2 if you are keen.

Sounds perfect - how much are you looking for them?
If they feel spongy or (after you've bought) you want to trim the hose length, PM me. I have a bleed kit. Happy to help. It's about a 20 minute operation.

I run Hayes 9's and have only had to bleed them once. Pads are normally really cheap to buy too
They are not a 'bling' brake but they are ok
Bugger - Just bought them - Torpedo 7 too.
Never mind, but Hawkeye - I may take you up on that offer. Hopefully I will get them by the end of the week.

Quick update - got the brakes, one of them had leaked in transit so spend 2 days trying to bleed the bleed'ng things. Finally got that sorted, fitted them and then came up with a small problem. My existing set up is very much budget - shifters and brake lever all in the one unit. With the new brakes, I cannot change gears as the brake body gets in the way. I know this sounds hard to believe but I have tried every possible position and they are just not compatible.
So I am now in the market for some shifters - 8 speed shimano. Is there anything I should be looking out for when buying these? I don't seem to be very good at buying new equipement (Brakes came with discs - now I realise the discs are not compatible with my wheels - there's 60 bucks down the drain right there!!)
I was going to go for SL-M410's as they seem to be the only one's on the market that will fit.
Are you sure your frame and fork even has disk mounts?
