Has anyone bought a second hand mountain bike? I know that there are good points and bad points, but looking for buying tips and just looking for the best deal. Seen a bike that I would really like for sale but concerned that the warrrenty wold not be valid and taht I do not have any rights if the bike is faulty. Feed back here is always great!

Hi, Rich

Not sure if I would buy second hand unless I knew the owner or bike history?

Late last year I had the misfortune of cracking my road bike frame, because I had bought the bike new from a shop, Cannondale were very helpful with the warranty & had me back on the road in about one week. Not bad considering the bike was about six years old.

During my visit to the bike store & going over the warranty papers I discovered that bike warranties usually only cover the original owner, this was good news for me but I would not have been so happy if I had bought it second hand.

To me the service & warranty you get buying new form a shop out weighs any small savings made buying second hand.

Sure there are some great bargains second hand, just be careful & inspect the bike all over because any problems after the sale you will be stuck with.

Happy bike shopping!
