...this classic bike event looks worthy of a side trip to Tuscany...
"L'Eroica", a 200km randonneur in Tuscany that occurs every year in the first week of October.
Participants must use bikes no younger than 1987.

Cool, I could have used my old Malvern Star Tarago mtb (Vintage 1986 - cast iron frame*, 6 speed, centre pull rim brakes) if it were still alive......
* well it felt like cast iron, but it was probably a primitive type of steel.
