Hey everyone not that i'm getting a new bike just wanna see whats out there for me Smiling

Any suggestions for a 6" trail rider ( i also like some big air Smiling and it would a duelie

umm under $2000.00 like $1500 i would wanna find a middle ground between gear and price so yeh i thank around that price.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but think the only way you're going to get a quality dualie for $1500 is by getting lucky on flea-bay or other second hand market. It does happen, but might take some time. Depends if you treat using flea-bay as entertainment or not? Eye-wink

You might just get a new bike from an LBS for that, but it would probably be heavy with entry level components. Not that this is bad, but... you'd probably then embark on a programme of upgrades and it would cost you more in the long run. I found an '09 Merida Trans-Mission for $1600 for example - but this is hardly a 'big air' bike.

Giant aren't the value they used to be... you'd be looking at a Reign 1 which is three grand for example.

For a bit of fun you can also check the local and O/S online bike stores. Few of 'em have 50% off - that'd bring the Giant right within budget Smiling

I would also have a word with Adrian @ Belrose Cycles, Frenchs Forest. He does big air bikes, but I would have no idea what the cost is, very probably more than that. He would be able to point you in the right direction though and is always friendly. Remember that you need to put some money into protective kit as well, I wouldn't be skimping on that.

As others have just stated, you can't get any quality kit for $2 grand or under. A minimum for a new duallie would be about $3 grand. Quality AM or FR rigs go for $3500-$5000. The cheapest FR rig I can think of would be a Norco Atomik. Maybe Flynny at his shop could help you out with that, if you are looking to buy.

I have a friend selling a Trek Session 7 soon, if you are interested. It is set up for FR. Send a PM over to Gilbo who can sort you out. I would have no idea about pricing, but his rig is 2 years old.

I have Norco Atomik VPS frame size M (think it's 2004) that i want to sell. It comes with cranks, headset, rear shock, chain guide, seat and seatpost
All it needs is wheels, handlebars,brakes and fork.

i actually have all parts except the fork.

for a Giant Reign or Yeti 575.

A few Cannondale Prophets have come up recently as well - a smidge shorter in travel (140mm vs 150mm for 6" travel) but you know how good the forks are. Smiling Easily within your budget as well.

Ok i should specify more. I defiantly don't want a fr or am bike a want a bike witch can go up hill and downhill (an xc bike) be comfortable to ride and can take a drop or two. From what i no the reign is an am style bike?? Correct my if im wrong but i think the trance x3 or something like that is around what im looking for (a xc style bike). And ive seen them around the 1800 mark.

Im probably wrong so let me no Sticking out tongue

If you can get an Trance X3 for $1800 snap it up. $2499 according to the Giant site.

If you only want to ride trails and drop off an occasional 3 foot huck a Trance should suit just fine. We were all confused because you said you wanted a 6" travel bike for drops Eye-wink

Edit: oh, wait... you said 6" rider. Think you meant 6' (foot) rider (as in - you are 6 feet tall), yes? Eye-wink

Can make it up heartbreak hill and go down the cannonball run in thredbo Laughing out loud

Sorry everyone i'm 6" TALL Smiling does that mean i need a large bike or can i get away with medium. Also what about a stumpjumper?

Russ here remember the guy that fixed your cables at aTerrey hills ride , you be better off on a Large like mine, but i'm not selling it at the moment as much as I like too . If you are looking at a Trance go at least a X2 it is not worth the X3 as the specs are too low for your riding ability look out for a X1 if you can off flea bay most ppl will post the bike if they are looking to get a good price & look around mountain bike club websites mine actually came from corcc club in Canberra I drove down & back same day to get it . It was $1500 for a trance 1

Sorry I thought you meant 6" travel, I now see you meant you are 6' tall.

Jacojoco's Giant Trance X-1 is a medium, but has a longer top-tube than my Cannondale Jekyll, which is a Large. I'm 6'1" (185cm), he is about 6 feet as well.

I think about 5" travel is a good all-rounder: Less nervous at descending than the XC race geometry on most 4" bikes, most are good climbers as well and more suitable for all-day trail riding and the occasional race.

Climbing ability is affected by the quality of both the rear shock and the fork. On the rear you want at least a Fox RP2.

Fleabay is your best option to get the best bike for your money - you drop 40% as soon as you roll out the LBS door. Sad Just leave a bit in your budget for customising things like saddles, seatposts, stems and bars if the rider is a lot shorter or taller than you, and allow for early replacement of things like brake pads, and transmission parts like chain and cassette.

If you are 6' tall, you sit very close to the change-over size from M to L for most bikes. If you are getting a huck-style bike (AM, Enduro, light FR) get an M. If you want a trail/AM bike, get an L. The longer wheelbase on the XC frame will make the uphills less of a punish.

Sorry, but my prior comments were on the understanding that you were going to get some air... as in huck this beast off some stuff. I would not be doing too much of that on a XC/trail bike if I was you. But thats just IMPO. Smiling
