Scott Genius Issues
I've got a three week old Scott Genius - awsome bike but-
Went out Red Hill yesterday and riding along heard a not so good noise (like snap) stopped to investigate - thinking the worst after reading about some of the issues with Spark frames snapping.
What had happened is the rear shock bolt had come away - at first it looked like it had sheared but on closer inspection this was not the case. This could be really dangerous thinking you have six inches of plush suspension to find as you land you have none!
I took the bike back to Favourite Cycles where I bought the bike from and to their credit they had the repair done with in two hours.
When talking to the guys in the shop they told me Scott had recognised the problem (apparently the shock bolt supplied on the bike was too short) and Scott had given them longer replacement bolts.
So if you own a Scott Genius I would be going back to where I bought it from and getting the longer shock bolt installed before you find out the hard way there is an issue with it.

Wayno I must have a sixth sense and that is my excuse for chickening out of that big drop that you so nicely executed.

I have a scott genius 20. Haven't had any issues really.
How are you finding it otherwise?
Which model/year was yours - just to see how much I should be worried about this bolt business? Oh I'm guessing it was 2010 - do you know if this iisue applies to 2009 models?
Apart from yesterday's issue I love the bike.
In fact it gets better each time I ride it as I play with the fork and traclock combos.
I probably would not have loved the bike so much had it failed during an event.
An epic failure caused by a bolt worth a couple dollars which Scott knows about would have left me livid.
Not sure if it is just a 2010 issue but thought I would put it out there - given DW is next week pushing a bike into St Albans is not the way to end the day not to mention safety concerns should it let loose at the wrong time on a techi ride.
Pleased to hear they fixed the bike so quickly for you but I wonder why they didn't change the bolt before it left the shop in the first place if they were already aware of the problem.

I've got a new (dec 09) genius 50.
Same issue happened on downhill of the dam. Scared the s##t out of me, didn't fall off but it was close. Long walk back up to the top... bugga!
It can very well become a dangerous issue... i would at least have your bike checked if possible.
As mentioned, shop replaced the bolt free from Scott. Apparently they know of the problem, yes it's a wonder why an active recall didn't happen.
Fantastic bike tho... dialing in different suspension settings from the handle bars is awesome..... more knobs to play with.
had the bike for a couple of days, and while doing some light jumping, noticed that when i drop the back wheel it was loose. tightened it back up and 30min later it happened again. apart from this it's a great bike, just gotta make sure that i carry an allen key with me till i get it fixed..
