DUALIE Smiling

Hoping someone on here might be able to assist.
currently i ride an 09 Alias (size XXL)
however recently i have been visiting trails where this bike just can't cope.
I would like to invest in my "rear end" and purchase a Dualie.
however i have hit 1 "small" snag and want to hear from people as to their recommendations/experiences.

* The problem *
I am not a short/small guy or even average for that matter.
I stand at a ridiculous 6'7" (198cm) and weigh in at a hefty 122Kgs
there are no dualie bikes that suit....

ideas people!!! ideas!!!! COMON!
oh and thanks Smiling

I believe a Zinn 29er might be what you're looking for. Won't be cheap of course, but they look like awesome bikes. I think someone else on here has one - they might chip their 2 cents in.

As for fit, maybe a visit to Steve Hogg at Rosebery to get fitted up and have your ideal bike dimensions figured out under his expert eye would be a good investment. Book early, though - it can take a couple of months to get in, such is the demand.

I'm 6'4 (give or take) and weigh around 118kg.

My Teocali has been great for the riding that I do although it was been upgraded along the way and isn't really kitted up for long distance rides due to weight and a short stem (runs Saint brakes, minions F&R, F/R rim etc) but I'd guess that our weight, long distance rides aren't going to be THAT high on the agenda.

Also look at a Giant Reign? Paul J on this site has one and is around 6'4.

I also remember reading an artical in MB Action that the people at Ibis are around your height and therefore have frames that would suit. Maybe a Mojo or the the 160mm version ridden by Brian Lopes at Canberra........noice!

Let us know what you get.

I'm similar height, but a bit lighter Smiling Still over 100kg though.

I've had an XL 06 Cannondale Prophet for over 4 years now and have found it fits well. I do have the seat post out a little further than recommended, but I like it high. Forget what model Prophet it was, but I upped the rear shock to a Manitou 3 way air and put a Mavic 721 rim on the back. The basic Lefty on it is getting a little tired now, but have only replaced drive train / tyres (multiple times) over that period.

Not that much help unless you want to chase a 2nd hand one, but the RZ 120 or 140 is the current equivalent (without the Ford Edsel chain stays).

Borrowed a demo Pivot Mach 429 (L) for a weekend last year and an XL one of those would be fantastic - if I had a lazy $7K...

I stood over a Giant Trance X0 (i think) with the seat at maximum, it seemed small based on the height of my hardtail... i want to make sure my seat is at the right hight for correct leg extension on the bike..

effectively the seat didn't even make it to my hip... and that was me standing flat footed on the ground.
maybe my inseam is also quite long?

Here you go

Harry needs a lift..

Morgan has a custom 29" Zinn - he's also 6'7" be worth asking him.

What is you budget like? And what type of riding are you doing? (no point looking at entry level DH bikes if it's highend XC you're into...)

If price is no drama then for XC look at the Santa cruz tall boy xxl

Used to work with a bloke who was 6'9". He had a Cell bike which fit him pretty well except it was a hardtail. Sorry, not much help.

Specialized do the Stumpjumper FSR all the way up to XXL which would suit. All sold out for 2010 though ( in that size) and there is just one comp available in XL. When 2011 is realeased get to your local Specialized dealer...

I'm 6'5" 123Kg (to short for my weight) and have Giant Trance XL - the rear suspension has to be pumped to the max but it seems to fit me OK (however I'm no expert) - I have the seat just below max extension recommended but I probably don't have a extra long inseem though. The Reign doesn't go this large so I think Trance or Anthem would be what you would need if you go Giant.

I assume your trance came with an Float shock? If it has to be 'pumped to the max' perhaps consider moving to a DHX Air which are allegedly more heavy duty? Looks like it should fit just fine on a Trance, but would be a strange combo perhaps?

Just a thought...

Yes, thats about the hieght of my Hardtail, however with the Trance XL, it doesn't even make it past my hip

Those SANTA CRUZ bikes look nice, i might go have a chat to the guy at Brookvale as i live in the area

NBC sells SC bikes. And you may well find in a dually, at least a more aggressive one, that a size smaller than your hardtail is what you find fits best - its been my experience - 6'2", 130kg kitted to ride, XL 21" Giant hardtail to L SC Nomad. But you are a good bit taller than I am.
