Oaks single track loops

I was talking to someone about laps of the Oaks single track today

Apparently the single track is 8 k's long with a 190m drop
So say a 16k loop

You could do 2 or 3 laps and it would be a good ride, I reckon
Smash it down the single track
Cruise the fire road on the way up and gas bag a bit
And repeat

Leave in groups so the guys that want to hammer it, can
Re-group at the bottom

Anybody be up for this one weekend?

I'd definately be up for that.

Must admit, i do like the sound of that mate, will have to check with timetable!

Yeah it's a good night ride on a moonlit night too. The white sand glows. Used to do laps of it years ago in the night.

I will be up for it next weekend. Also good to ride up the single track, nice technical climb very difficult to clear it all. Just dodge the guys coming down.

But the following Sunday I could do it
That's the 30th

30th sounds ok to me as well. That is of course if you don't mind a ring in from Sydney coming along?

Andy Bloot's picture

Nice one, Brian
it's posted as a ride now
Limit of 7, but i will change it if it's popular
And leave in groups

Already signed up Smiling

I will be doing the winery's around Berry on the weekend of the 30th so will miss the ride.

May go to Appin for some laps this Sunday though.

Another option for this is to ride down into Euroka on the way back, then travel Bennets Ridge fire trail back up. This brings you out just above Woody Pear Dam, good consistant gradient and can chat to each other!
Entry to Bennets Ridge is on Eastern side of Euroka. Follow road around to right, over causeway and up past the toilets through the gate, also sign to Nepeaen River if I remember correctly. When on Bennets just follow track to the right all the way up.
Couple of different ways to enter Euroka, can go down the main road proper, or turn off this at the Mt Portal Lookout intersection and follow the single track behind the logs adjacent to Euroka road down or alternatively you can descend down the old exit road from Euroka.
This is the gate at The Ironbarks picnic area which is situated on the left hand side of the Oaks Fire Trail as you head up just past the Euroka turnoff, where those funny looking short tables are, past where the bituman finishes.
This is a great fast flowing fire trail that brings you out at the Nioka clearing in Euroka where you will often see the grey 'roos sunning in the clearing. This is also a good exit route out of Euroka. Again follow the main road in Euroka around to the right past the water tap to get to the head of Bennets.
Also a great night ride just be careful of those pesky wombats.
Hope this is of interest.

Good idea, Andy! That weekend looks good, but I'll just need to check with the social organiser before committing.

Andy Bloot's picture

And thanks Sponge

And just so everybody knows

With the 'don't turn up if not signed in' thing on the ride meeting thingy
Bring whoever you want to this ride

Rides are created with a template that can't be changed
So bring some mates along if you want or whatever

It's a social ride - you can do 1 lap or 10
it's a good way to meet like minded people
And have a blast through the bush

Hey guys,

Just did the loop this arvo and took 45min. I didn't go too hard up the fireroad maybe ave 15kph. Went as hard as I could back down the singletrack though.. Smiling

Cheers

Andy Bloot's picture

Say an hour with gas bagging
half an hour for lunch and more gas bagging
3 loops in (under) 4 hours should be do-able

Would be a guts up in the arvo effort though

Or 5 x 45 minutes loops with time to spare Sticking out tongue
