Thieves in the Mountains

Hey guys,

I know this is a MTB forum, but as most are from the mountains I thought I'd post a quick warning up here.

We were robbed today while we were at work. They got the TV, laptop, camera, guitar amp and pedals, my wifes jewelry etc.

They kicked in the back garage door, punching my bike handle bar through the gyprock. They left my bike, golf clubs, all our dvd's, my guitars etc. So only took items they could quickly unload for cash.

Cops say they are too busy to come out, so looks like these bastards will get away with it as usual.
We're in the Winmalee area, so make sure you lock up.

Neighbours daughter saw a blue or light blue commodore out the front - so if anyone tries to sell some stuff out of a car like this, ring the cops - or better yet tell me.

Sorry for the rant, but I've got the shits.

Not good Ian. I've heard about a few break-ins around Glenbrook and Blaxland over the last month or two. They have been breaking in at night while you are asleep. Will keep an eye out.

Bummer mate.

Cops too busy to come out? Fark that. Keep at them. There were 48,000 of 'em at East Blaxland doing RBT this arvo, I'm sure they could spare 2.

It's a bad feeling when you get home and realise you've been robbed
And then realise what you've lost
Were you insured by any chance?

Sorry Ian,
it gives me the shits that some turds are sullying the good name of the mountains, i hope there fingers drop off the bastards, now i am pissed off!

Blue Mountains Police too busy? I can tell you the Springwood Police Station is one of the quietest in the state. Call them and tell them you want them too attend. They may refer you to the Police asistance line (PAL). If your happy to report the B+E to a PAL then they will create a job for forensics to come and take fingerprints. If you want police to attend then tell them. if they say no ask to speek to a supervisor. Fingerprint hits is one of the main ways we catch these shitbags. Lazy cops are the reason the shitbags keep doing it and gives the cops who care a bad name.

Well my wife stayed home today and the cops came out this morning, forensics are at our place now - doubt anything will come of it though.

We are insured Andy, just have to wear the 500 excess. It just shits me that lazy pricks are happy to kick in your door and just take the stuff you had to work for.

We moved up here to make sure this shit doesn't happen, but you cant pick it can you. I guess thieves will go wherever they can get things easily.

you'll be surprised what they can get.

they managed to lift two finger prints from our garage break in a few years ago ... although the prints themselves didn't do anything to FIND the crims ... they did help to pin the guy to the scene when they eventually did find the him.

was interesting watching them as well.

Hope your insurance covers it all ... but I know thats only a small part of it ... knowing people have gone thru your house is kinda freaky.

No luck on the prints, none were usable.

They did leave part of a latex glove behind, so that might turn up something.

I hope insurance comes good - its what we pay our premiums for isn't it. They sent the builder round last night to dodge up the door frame, so I guess they will come through. Its hard to value some things - a 10+ year old gig amp in perfect nick electronically, but with a number of scooner ring stains on top from open mic's etc. Prob not worth what I think it is, but replacing it is impossible. Pics on the camera they flogged, emails on the laptop etc.

The instances of this happening in the mountains is on the rise, as people from less, ahem, "fortunate" areas discover what a generally quiet place the mountains is. A train line running all the way up, quiet, tree shrouded streets with good cover etc etc. Just read the police round up in the gazette each week and you'll see what I mean.

maybe we should put together a MTB vigilante group. Ride around swingin' chains and big sticks. Maybe i can talk to my Police insider and get some Tazers (not likely)...

PS my wife has seen some dodgy looking characters hanging around Glenbrook too. You know the sort that you only usually see at Penrith station.

Considering how much effort these mofos go to, to break into someone's house for a few bucks, they would be much better off getting a job. Probably less effort and more money too. Dickheads!

best is to avoid the subjective stuff and just go like with like ... even if the model is superseded.

If you do the research for the insurance co ... (presuming you don't have receipts) ... then they will normally take your word for it. eg, back in the day, my Kona Stab was selling for approx 12K with fork upgrade at a prominent LBS (yes I'm old) ... I bought it second hand, but because I provided weblinks and a quote from the shop ... and the assessor was a dirt merchant as well ... they were gonna honour it.

I also got top of the range wetsuits, body board etc etc because I provided them with pictures of me and my kit, plus quotes ... The pictures are the ticket to a payout without receipts.

almost had all that cash too ... then they found my bike ... Jawdropping! two edged sword that ... I still have the stab and its prolly worth $200 if I'm lucky ... *shrugs.

re: vigilante
I'd be in ... except I know I'd end up the one getting linched ... especially from Ms "Where do you wee when you ride OBR" Puzzled
