What do your avatar and username mean
I often wonder what 's behind peoples avatars and names
But usually forget to ask when I meet them
When I do remember, the answer is usually different to what I expected
Like I thought Moggios was some weird bird - it's apparently something to do with Captn Beefheart
But i still forget to ask him where Moggio comes from
So for me
Well firstly, that IS NOT ME in my avatar
this poor young chap was a stand out on a farkin bad haircuts thread
And Bloot is not my last name even though people call me Mr Bloot
People around 40 years old may remember the monkey with the stick on pointy ears in Lost in Space
He used to run around making a bloot bloot noise, and so did I
Over time people just started calling me Bloot
Stupid, but there you go
I know there's some interesting ones out there, though

I'll play Andy, mine stands for BM( blue mountains ), Epic( bike i ride and love ), my( farkin ) avatar is something else altogether, it is a slug of Uranium 235, this means weapons grade, not only that, this slug is the closest that physicists have come to making a slug of uranium that is as close as safely possible to the critical mass,i guess i am a very avid student of nuclear science and nuclear history, i get asked about this a lot, and i have to give long winded answers, now , my bmorc avatar, it is a picture of Tsar Bomba, the biggest weapon( thermonuclear) ever made and exploded, it came in at 75 megatonne and was powerful enough to flatten all of NSW and surrounding states, it was parachute dropped in siberia, the parachute slowed it's descent to allow the plane to safely escape, it was dropped from a height of 45,000 ft, and everybody quickly realised that they had indeed gone to far with weapon making!
That's kind of what prompted this
i asked mark in the car coming back from the Careflight
What are Todd's avatars
I thought they were from some old sci-fi show
When he kind of explained the above
I'm like - what??
Mine are just rude heads
Good thread Andy, as boring as it sounds my first ' true ' mountain bike was a Norco ' Bushpilot ' I thought how cool a Canadian bike with the word ' bush ' in the name, I didn't think anyone but aussies called the bush ' bush ', anyhow I still have the frame. My avatar is a weird deep ocean fish washed up on a beach somewhere, don't know much about it except it looks scary as hell and I'm glad I can't swim deep enough to encounter such weirdness, I'll probably change it now and then, that's what I did on farkin anyhow.
hmmm. I'm Andrei, was born in '74 and that's my Police Grade Orange Iron Horse Yakuza, but you probably figured that out already. You can tell i didn't have any imaginary friends when I was a kid.
Well mine is just an old Santa Cruz skateboard deck because my bike is a Santa Cruz and they used to make boards back in the day.
Funnily enough I was browsing around for this particular deck (Jeff Grosso "Alice in Wonderland") on Ebay just because I wanted to hang it up in my garage. They go for up to $4000, it's a very sought after board. It was my very favourite board when I was a kid growing up. I wish I had of bought one back then and kept it!
Oh yeah, my name is Hector, hence HEC:)
My user name is the same as a Forester forum i'm a member of. BLKFOZ; stands for Black Forester which is the car I drive - bit of a suprise pack this car, not many plain looking soft roaders will do 0-100km in 6 seconds.
Pic is of me and one of my good mates (who is in the army over in the gan at the moment) fishing up the coast.
Love that pic Ian, i thought your name had something to do with the Fonz, heeeeeyyyyy!
Hector, i used to skate and had minor sponsorship when i was app:18, my first serious deck was a Santa Cruz duane peters in the red and black angled stripes, i got Lance Mountain to sign it in 89 and he couldn't beleive what he was holding, i cant even remember what i did with it, i am pretty sure i gave it away, i would hate to know what it's worth now, i also owned a vision lee ralph, sims jeff phillips, vision lobster tail and so on and so on, i now own a black label Christian Hosoi, i owned about 25 decks, i cant remember them all, i remember my knee injuries though!
Mines pretty obvious, the avatar is the Ozzy Osbourne slippers I wear around and the Vinno bit is just what a guy I knew years ago started calling me, he thought we all needed a knick name. Boring yes.
I do swap my avatars around and the GIMP suit may pop up sometime. I had the Fat Slags from Viz magazine prior to the slippers.
Andy I always thought it was the Bloop not Bloot. I will have to watch some more episodes, I have the box set. By the way the Bloot is called Debbie.
My Username is the same username I have on pretty much every forum I've ever visited. I loved (and still do) Tolkien, and really got in to the Silmarillion. For some reason, can't really remember why, I really enjoyed the Isildur character, hence my username.
My avatar is me at Menai on my old trance, hitting up some of the bigger stuff, showing my mate (on a 7" FR bike) what to do! I do tend to swap my avatars around though, generally whatever catches my eye!
Avatar is part of a painting by Don Van Vliet aka Captain Beefheart one of my biggest musical heroes.
Moggio is the name of an increadibly difficult piece of music by Frank Zappa I spent a few months learning a few years back. The word was in my head and was what I chose for when I joined Farkin.
Just in case anyone is interested to hear it...

Well, didn't think very hard about the xtc but I'm sure they designed this signage for me. Have been known to high side when my ego overtakes my ability. Have a good appreciation of the terra firma now, and find the older I get, the longer I take to fix. (probably a cross between self preservation & old age really)
Mine's the Cat from red dwarf.
The Cat's an old work nick name with a bad Boy Bubby reference
"The Man From Utopia" hey Mog. A mate had the LP.
My username is that of the superhero from the classic childrens weekday afternoon cartoon "Fat Albert".
Living out this way and going to school in the 70's and 80's, there weren't that many people who were not of anglo saxon heritage. The show would come on and since I sported a 'fro as a kid, I was called The Brown Hornet. The name stuck when I injured my eye and had to wear a pair of big black shades to school for a few days.
I prefer the username "jp" which are the initials of my first name, but on occasion they are already taken. that is when I become... "THE BROWN HORNET".
I was originally screaming_gecko ... after an episode where I coated my pants with brown stuff half way up a climb ... god hold had a gecko on the other side and as I reached it and took hold I unknowingly grabbed the puppy and heard for the first time the angry hiss of a gecko ... scared the crap out of me, and my belayer was pissing himself laughing whilst I was swinging upside down thinking what the hell was that. I've always loved geckos and the screaming gecko sealed it. I never thought twice about using it as part of our BMORC email campaigns thought it funny when it got a mention the other night ... I also have a dormant company Screaming_Gecko Enterprises ... which I've just sat on and never really done anything with.
After being banned off Farkin due to my asking Ryan if he'd split his pop loc off his crappy 4x rig ... he then looked up my very limited posts ... decided to call me a grey importer ...and I needed a new user name ... Nerf Herder is from Star Wars ... watch the Empire Strikes Back ... Leia and Han swap spit and well Nerf Herder is born. Its also a band ... but they were similarly influenced.
I chose it because in my second incarnation on Farkin, I became infinitely more active organising rides and became a post whore anonymous (PwA) etc.
I like to organise stuff ... so youse be the Nerf ... I be the Herder.
my avatar was what came up after a good search ... well one of many things anyway ... I liked and it stuck.
I didn't know that about "Bloot" ... I always thought it was your surname
And many of my questions answered
Jeff, that fish is the devil
I could never work out what that was
Vince...oh the memories come flooding back
It was indeed 'the bloop'
And yes, it was a girl monkey called Debbie
I completely forgot about all that
I may have to change my username to Debbie Bloop
Actually Bloot was kind of a combination of 'Debbie' and 'Harvey'
Harvey was a 6' tall invisible rabbit that followed Jimmy Stewart around in a movie of the same name
The rabbit never said anything (not that you could hear), but my friend said Bloot (based on The Bloop)
I used to draw him everywhere - he was kind of crazy looking with wild eyes and chipped buck teeth
His body was a stick, but he was always waving hello or goodbye
Anyway, you have the box set of Lost in Space, Vince
You must be a big fan
I might have to invite myself for a Lost in Space BMORC sesh
I loved that show
i used to get so excited every time they went out in the charriot
And how were those jet packs
J the B = Jim the Baptist.
So I'm in Santiago with a Chileno mate of mine, and we've just dropped the Kombi van off at the garage for the first of five engine overhauls. Nothing else to do, we go for a coffee.
I'm thinking the cafe looks a bit different with its frosted windows, but it's only when I get inside and order a coffee that I realise that we're in a café con piernas, or cafe with legs.
The place is pretty empty at that time of day, so when our bikini-clad waitress brings our cappuccinos, she sits down for a chat.
This is fine for my mate, who was born in Santiago, but my Spanish was non-existent back then, and I'm resigned to watching the legs that came with my coffee.
So that's the way it goes for a while, them yammering on in Spanish, me saying nothing, until after about ten minutes our waitress, not knowing that I can't speak their lingo, turns to my mate and says,"You're friend's very quiet. What's up? Is he a Baptist?"
That is the best story I've heard (read) in ages. Would have been piss funny. Nice one
@Nerf, that's a good story about that gecko. I can relate to that: I was about 4 metres up a forgotten choss-pile out at Cosmic many years ago, trying to slot a cam in a horizontal break, when this thing comes rushing out of the hole to the right of the break, runs along my arm and launches off my back, trailing a stream of piss. To this day I can't be sure what it was, but my belayer and I agreed it could have only been a scared possum. We have no idea how it managed the landing from that height, as we were both unsighted: I had basically disappeared inside my chalk bag out of fright, and my belayer was ducking a golden shower...
But you haven't explained your avatar
You mentioned it was you
That ridiculous getup was something I wore to a Masked party. Helmet took me half the day to make from an old saucepan and some copper pipe. I thought I'd better get some more return on my investment, so here it is.
All this talk of avatars made me change mine!
Here's me in a costume I made for a party recently
Fans of Futurama will understand it.
I kept looking at that thinking
Who or what the f*** is that
Great ROI
You blokes sure go to a lot of trouble for a party
Do you still get about in that gear
Or was it a once only
You might need to do a hard refresh (Control R) to see a recently changed avatar. I was still getting loki's canoe bridge crossing until I did one .
Oh yes, my user name is my name and I ride a lefty (I don't think that was hard to work out)
@ Mr Bloot - no it was a once only costume. Quite frankly it was a bit hard to drink whilst wearing it which goes against Bender's (& my) rules about alcohol
It's still sitting on the garage floor though and stares at me every time I pull into the garage...
My dogs name is bender, he is an idiot!
Are you implying something here ?!?
BTW - Loki is my cat's name...
The Name: Used to play alot of PC games at friends and online, decided to use Chopper WeeD (Mark 'Chopper' Reid) as an alias just for fun and it stuck. I used it alot in online in games and on forums. Until I had other onlines users wanting to know if I was selling, and had many forum posts discredited due to people believing I was a pot head. I needed a change and at the time I was playing in a clan and half the members had star or ster at the end of their aliases so I changed my alias to ChopSt!R just for a joke and have kept it since. I use Chop for short.
The Avatar is me during a Hike-a-bike along Lane Cove River on a very hot day. Took us about 3hrs to traverse the 1km trail. Never planning on doing it again.
