CREE Q5 LED 300 LM 7W Headlamp available on eBay for $16 delivered.

Was able to modify to fit on helmet by removing the strap and attaching with velcro. Makes a great zoom-able spot light. Uses 3 AAA batteries in a separate battery pack. Runs for more than 2 hours on high using rechargeable NiMH batteries.

Cool idea. Thanks. Have you trail tested this at night?

Wow... that's an incredible deal - nice work with the mod to make it fit on the helmet.

I have the same light (thanks to Chopper Smiling ) and it works good on the Single track at Knapsack and the Oaks. You can't go wrong for the price.

Trail tested last Friday night on "White Cross - Bees Nest Hill" loop ride with Magic Shine on handle bars. Great combo.

Dave_B and I ran into Chopper and Hahill and the crew out there on Friday night and I can tell you its a great light for $16. I've got 2 magic shines, but Ill get a couple of these just for back-ups and to lend to mates etc.

For those interested in checking this out or buying one the E-bay item number is 280482926232.

While you are at it check these lights out. E-bay item number 380241123218.

These similar looking lights were featured in the May/June/July 2010 edition of Mountain Bike Australia ("Magishine") and were priced at $199.

If you trawl a little more through E-bay similar sets can be bought from Asia for about $40 less.

I have dealt wit Batterymax, an Aussie company/distributor, previously on other lighting systems and found them really helpful. They also have a bar mounted mountain bike light which doubles as a torch.

I have purchased a similar style of torch from them and can attest that the light output is exceptional.

I didn't feel that the torch I purchased had the right spread of light for riding with but the one I see that they now advertise appears to have a pretty good even spread of light and a good throw.

You can get Magicshines from dealextreme for about $78US with free delivery. You will need to get an extension cable for helmet mount though and need a pin converter for the charger (US straight style provided).

I got 2 lights sets + 2 extension leads for about $190AUS delivered, so don't pay more than $100 a piece.
