Squeeky Pivot when in Pro Pedal - Yeti 575

Hoping someone can help.

When I have pro pedal switched on, I have an annoying squeek coming from the rear shock / pivot area on my Yeti 575.

I do not have the squeek when pro pedal is switched off.

I have had the bike recently serviced (last week), and even though I pointed the issue out before the service it is still unresolved.

As you can imagine the squeek is very annoying on long rides, as I have pro pedal on the majority of the time.

Also all of the bearings on the Yeti have recently been replaced. Bike has probably done about 300 - 400k's since the bearings were replaced with new enduro bearings.

Has anyone else experienced this issue ? How did you overcome this ? What do you recommend as next steps ?

The reason you have the squeak,is so i could hear where you were in front of me the other week at Awaba. But i'm sorry i dont know about the fix, maybe some lube with the bearings before they go in.....?

I have this noise coming from both bikes I have with RP23 shock (Rush & 575). Although it sounds more like a bird in distress than a squeak.

Did the service include the shock? I would imagine changing the seals might fix this but haven't got round to it yet.

Shock was serviced including replacement seals the same time as the bearings.

The recent service I just asked the guys to investigate the squeek. But seems to be no joy.

Note the squeek is only when pro pedal is on. Is yours the same, or is it happening all the time (ie. pro pedal off and on.

This has only started in say the last 100 - 200 k's of riding.

Yup - only squeaks when pro-pedal is on.

Interesting... I won't bother changing the seals then, if it makes no difference Eye-wink

I chased a squeak for 6 months on my Trance, had all bearings replaced new headset etc. it ended up being the shock bushings. I can tell mine need replacing when if i lift the bike with one hand under the seat i can feel play. now never having ridden a yeti im not sure if that system will work but i dare say that if your bearings needed replacing then your bushings probably did too.

Nah - I know what a worn bushing feels like on the Rush and have replaced before. Can't imagine the noises I'm talking about can't be from bushings then.

Mine has a bit of a weeze with propedal turned on but as the GT's I drive system works I don't normally use it in pro pedal position anyway....

It could just be a bit of gunk or even cold oil (you normally have a bit of fox fluid in there to lube things up) in the damping port.

Turn the ipod up

I have the same issue on my 575- distinct squeaking sound coming from the shock when loaded with propedal on. I'm on my second RP23 and second rear triangle and it still makes the same noise. LBS cannot diagnose the issue after repeatedly raising it with them.

Really interested to see if anyone can get to the bottom of this.

Pretty sure I said it more than once on this weekends Angry Doctor Outraged Orthodontist, get yourself off to see Brad (aka Fankles) at KOM

Would you like to borrow my Specialized Stumpy......No squeaks here!!!!! Just pure riding pleasure. Sticking out tongue

My Reign 0 has the same problem. I took it to Woolys Wheels to have it serviced, they replaced the seals and gave it back to me and it was no different than before they had done the seals. I don't think they know what is causing the squeak but it doesn't seem to affects its performance. But I must say it is bloody annoying.

It could just be that the wiper seal is dry, try popping the end of a cable tie under the seal and put a couple of drops of oil, preferably suspension oil, under the seal.

I have had the same issue with the rp23 shock on my cannondale rush since new. As the rp23 has 3 propedal settings i found that i would get the squeek on one setting but not the other, so just selected setting without noise. Recently had the shock serviced, new seals, etc, and now it squeeks on setting that was previously squeek free. Seems like a common issue, my friend's kona with an rp23 has just started making the noise after 2 years.

It's just the fluid passing through the ports and cavitating. I noticed it on Robs bike when we did a couple of laps together a few weeks ago (until he disappeared into the distance on the singletrack!) - I just kinda shrugged my shoulders and thought, "Oh yeah, they're gonna do that sometimes.".

Might be a little air has crept into the fluid possibly? You'd need to strip it down fully and change the fluid, which I imagine would mean sending back to Fox as I believe the shocker proper (as opposed to just the air canister seals) is nitrogen charged and not user or shop serviceable... but I'm speculating

Same for my rp23, only when pp is turned on. I can usually get the noise to stop by turning pp off and on a few times. I'm pretty sure the noise is in the shock itself.

yeah it sounds like something in the propedal damping unit which would require pulling apart the compression part of the rear shock.

I will pull everything apart on my bike including front forks but i will not touch a rear shock. Easier to send it off to someone who knows what they are doing.

Well its good to know that I am not alone with this.

Sounds like there is no easy fix, except a complete overhaul of the shock itself.

At least we seem to have narrowed it down to the shock. I am happier now knowing that the bearings I just replaced are not causing the problem.

Keep the ideas coming - especially the ones that solve the problem.
