I would like to buy a spare hanger - after a close call I don't want to be left without one! This may seem like a silly question but how the hell do I know what hanger I need? So far, I have clicked on about 30 on a few online retailers and am going on what they look like compared to mine. I am assuming that there must be an easier way?!

I did that for my XTC after the hanger got bent during transit, should be a fairly easy process.

You could go to the bike shop and ask to buy a spare hanger. If they sold you the bike or stock that brand I am sure they will know which one is the correct one.

Putting in an order with CRC or Wiggle for a bunch of stuff so was hoping to add to that. I will head back to the manufacturers website although that was my first stop and I couldn't find anything there!

i see your problem. Typed hanger into CRC search, there are lots of choices. Maybe contact manuufacturor to get serial number of hanger. Sometimes these things are mass produced by OS frame manufacturers and then added to the frame later. Sometimes a couple of frame companies will buy hangers that other companies are using. Otherwise, contact CRC, tell em what you have and they may be able to direct you to the right one online.

I know that you can get universal hangers. They tend to not be the best thing for accurate shifting, however they do get you home.

The other otion is to go single speed!!! Far better thing to do I think.

If it was me I would go local and still take my current one off the bike to compare but that's just me.

Check out Wheels Manufacturing:

They make hangers for many frames, you just need to search their website to find the appropriate numbered hanger for your bike. They can be purchased mail order from The Bike Shed, Mortdale. I got hangers for my Yeti this way.

Derailleur hangers are usually specific to your bike's frame. What have you got?

Some manufacturers won't even sell through online resellers such as CRC and Wiggler either. For instance I have to by hangers for my Santa Cruz through the AU distributer.
