im looking to replace the current cable brakes on my gitane hardtail with a set of disc brakes. im new to this subject so im wondering what i will need to do this and whether or not it is even worth doing
most of my riding is XC

If your going to upgrade to disk brakes, you might be better of buying a new bike
You will have to change your wheels, change you fork, then change the brakes so it will end up costing you a lot more then initially intended. Maybe just a change of pads and you will be fine, not sure about v brakes.....
