Hi everyone,
Just thought I would introduce myself following a prompt from Nerf Herder. (thanks).
Grew up in Lapstone and moved away for twenty years and have just returned settling in Park Street Glenbrook. I am relatively new to mtb. Was a big boy until last year when i lost 50kg in twelve months doing triathlons. But swimming sucks so I am sticking to running and bikes, particulalrly mtb. Have been out exploring knapsack and also national park. Relived old days by exploring narrow neck last weekend. Gotta love where we live. Have just joined wsmtb and signed up for 4hr enduro. Is going to kill me as i have put 5kgs back on over winter and havent got last seasons fitness back yet. But hey gotta love gettimg out and about.
Anyway why the introduction?
A) meet some riders and perhaps hookup for a ride or two
B) my job is an advocate/lobbyist. So i thought i could volunteer my help with the current work BMORC are doing with BMCC. I work for the mining industry and advocate on their behalf dealing with a range of stakeholders including government, environmental groups and communities. A challenge. We arent the most popular industry
My backgroumd is as a geologist, so sustainability and environment are very strong principles i live by. I hope we can see a sustainable and equitable arrangement that works for the community, mtbers and the environment because it is so damn great round here.
Anyway if i can be of assistance dont hesitate to give me a yell
Cheers
Andrew

Hi Andrew, welcome aboard. There are plenty of rides happening around the area, not always posted though. I'm out every couple of days riding somewhere around Glenbrook or the National Park and you're more than welcome to join in. You just need to be a bit faster than me to make sure I'm out of breath.
I think there's a ride this Sunday in Glenbrook, Todd or Giles might confirm and we should post it up.
Any assistance on the advocacy front is welcome!!
Chuck
PS Well done with the weight!
G'Day Andrew glad to see you here. Help with advocacy stuff is more than welcome. We need various perspectives and ideas here.
Keep an eye out for rides or feel free to post one up. Its also good to just try and hook up with someone regularly, like I ride with DeBloot maybe 4 times a week around 5pm at Squiglies which is usually decided at around 3pm just because we have have similiar pace and schedules.
...and 50kg in 12months.... damn that is some conviction. Wow! I'm still trying to get rid of 5kg but those coco pops are so damn tasty after dinner.
Mate! Where have you been? Welcome Andrew Welcome to the fold, ur background in advocacy is a God send so welcome aboard, lots in the mix at the moment, a motivational word from you to our constituents highlighting the actual relevance of being pro active with letter writing and email would be great right now as I feel our group are lurking and not doing any more than scanning their inbox and binning BMORC content, shame I met a lot of people and they all seemed so genuinely willing to help unfortunately it really seems to me that they are as committed as I would have hoped.
So give it a go read the posts get involved BMORC is driven by riders and residents not just a few individuals cheers
I have put up some coin to get people involved so far I have received no responses, come on people get off ur asses!
Kingy
Welcome Andrew.
Kingy, worry less little fella, emails have been sent!
Welcome aboard Andrew and welcome
Kingie, yeah it's one of those things people get excited about but the slow turning of the gears of change sometimes see many lose the faith and just go back to riding bike on unofficial trails like we've always done.
But no matter how alone you feel you are there are other doing there bit and the general peeps just need a prod every now and then.
Have I added you in to the NSW group emails? andrew if your interested I can add you into that loop too. It's pretty much a think tank for different Advocacy people around the state where we discuss stuff behind the scenes before going public and calling in the troops
G'day Beaker (is that beaker from the Muppets)
Cheers for posting and welcome aboard.
I'm sitting at 125kg and usually the one holding everyone up on the group rides.
whats your secret?
Tim
Thanks for posting Beaker ... hope to meet soon or at the 14 Dec 2010 BMCC meeting to approve the draft Knapsack plans.

'Bout 4 times a month lately - work has been very taxing of late
And I've decided to start studying in between job apps as I desperately need a change
Anyhoo, PM me or Mog if you're out and about katoomba way around 5pm or later
Can show you some pretty nice riding around the area (squiggs)
And we're no whippets so pace is relaxed
I managed six days in a row last week... rain is stuffing this week up... bloody weather!
