Chain Jumping gears
Having trouble with my 2002 yukon and was wondering if I could fix it at home. When the chain is in middle drive ring and in the 3rd largest cassette ring the chain will keep jumping out of gear and into the 4th ring and back again. What is most likely causing this?

Does it do this in any other gear combination? It not, I would suspect there may be a bent tooth on the cassette but can't tell from the picture.
If that was the case, can it be bent back or would a new cassette be the way?
As its Alivio type gear it should be nice and chunky and take to bending back quite well.
It may be that you just need to tweak the barrel adjuster a tad as things are never perfectly linear, there will always the one gear ratio that starts being out of adjustment first.
Possibly as well, your hanger may have got fractionally bent which should be handled by the barrel adjuster as well.
Alivio stuff doesn't shift in a silky manner but it is pretty damn robust and handles abuse pretty well.
When ever my rear derailleur plays up I reset it. Put it in top gear and big ring, Set the cable tension to just loose and adjust the high limit to just toward the next gear. Then put it in 1st gear and granny and set the limit to just toward 2nd gear.
I just put my bike into the LBS to get a new rear cable and outer as mine was grabbing and up-shifting really slowly. Works perfectly now - it has been on the way out for months but I've been putting it off cause I'm cheap.
