Hi Gazza,

Although you can enter on the day - it would save you queueing time if you entered online. By entering online, we already have your details in the race computer, and we just have to issue the race plate. Otherwise you have to queue to register and pay as well. This process also makes it much easier for our volunteers.

Don't worry about wet weather. If the race is postponed we have a refund or transfer policy.

Hope to see you out there.

Hi all,

We were out at Yellomundee on Sat 8 Jan doing some track work - clearing edges etc. The track is looking good - but due to all the recent rain, the soil is damp (like all Sydney!). We will be watching the weather closely this week, and posting any situation updates on our web site (www.wsmtb.com) on Friday evening and then through Saturday.

If you register online, then we can send you a direct email if the race is postponed. Remember, we have a refund/transfer policy - so your $ are OK. Registering online save heaps of time on the day, and make our job easier as well.

See you there,

Ray Rice

If anyone fancies doing some night-riding, but doesnt want to ride the full 4hrs, I quite fancy hitting the daylight laps (up till 7.45ish I s'pose) so could pair up, or even make a team.
I hate night riding, so dont want to do it, but like I say, if you wanna to practise darkness, drop me a PM.

I'm at Winmalee and it drizzled a bit mid morning. Drove past the 'mundee around 1100 and there were 6 or so cars in the car park. It's quite warm now and the cicadas are deafening! Get amongst it!

A tad warm for most of it , and slightly disapointed I didn't do a final lap with 15 min to go as I felt pretty good . Also good to say hi to some familiar faces too

So my night was a comedy of errors ending up with my having to stop at the end of nearly every lap.

I planned to start out with a Camelback so I could stay really hydrated at the start of the race before using my one stop at about 7:30 to ditch the Camelback, switch to a bottle and pick up my lights. I'd then need just two quick bottle changes to see me through to the end.

I started out wearing a pair of clear glasses I haven't used since winter in Blackheath. Turns out they don't allow anywhere near enough airflow for a hot, humid night at the base of the mountains. By the end of the first lap I had so much sweat in my eyes I could hardly see where I was going. So one lap down I'm stopped trying to quickly switch lenses on my spare pair of glasses before heading out again. Not ideal but I should be able to make up the time.

That is until half way down the steep section of single track leading to the river I lost the bite-valve from the Camelback. With a couple of riders right on my tail I couldn't stop or even slow down and the water was pouring out of the Camelback right into my shoe. I managed to let go with one hand just long enough to shove the pipe into my mouth but with no way to control the water flow I felt like I was drowning by the time I got to the bottom of the steep section and was able to pull over to tie a knot in the tube. So two laps down I'm stopped again ditching the Camelback and switching to a bottle. Stupidly though, I forgot to pick up the lights but realising this I figure at least I should be able to knock off two more laps before stopping again.

All was going well until on one of the climbs up to the midpoint of the lap I encountered an Echidna right in the middle of the trail. I couldn't just leave the little guy there as by this time it was not that light anymore and he was stuck right in a rutted section of the trail where he was likely to get hit. With a fair bit of encouragement I managed to get him off the track on off into the bush and set off again.

Next lap I had to stop and pick up the lights but didn't want to ditch a bottle that still had some fluid in it. With the loss of the Camelback I was going to run short of a drink by the end and wanted to make sure I used every drop. Of course this meant that on the following lap I had to stop AGAIN to get a full bottle.

One more stop at some stage to get my last bottle and then by the final lap all 3 bottles were completely empty and I had to stop and refill from a water can which proved to have a very tricky tap.

Having said all that - I had a blast. Definately going to be more organised next time around!!
