These were mentioned aaages ago on here...but they're on special again, and I'm after some cheapo lights to get started riding in low light conditions....I know Rob said he bought a set before, any opinions anyone?

Yeah - they are a nice way to get into night riding without spending too much time or money.

Although I'd rate them good for fire trail only. 1.5 hours burn is enough for Terrey Hills Perimeter + Long.

Someone else (who was that?) said they pulled out the standard halogen bulbs and replaced with something higher power. Of course you'll stuff the burn time doing that, but they will be brighter no doubt.

Standard beam comparisons here (from page 4 of my LED article), "Distance between the tree stump foreground and large tree background (by the sign) is 22m, the camera is about 4m back from the stump."

These are the PowerBeam 5+10 we're talking about:

Beam Comparison - 10+5W Halogen

These are my homemade jobbies, same camera ISO/exposure/etc:

Beam Comparison - 8-6-16-8 Diffusers

As Rob has said, the lights are great for what they are (pricewise too). You sacrifice a bottle holder, add a bit of weight, but at least you get an extended ride time at dusk!
I used to ride with only a Petzel tikka on my helmut... try that at speed @ midnight!
=;o)

I probably won't be doing any technical riding at night, so fire trails would suit. I really want a set too for when I'm on night St John Ambulance duties. They have these lightstick halogen lights on the bikes that are generally broken or don't work for one reason or another. Its happened several times I'm rushing to a job and I've hit a pothole because I couldn't see it in the dark...
