Hi everyone,
Just wondering if you can help me to take a decision here, I want to buy a new bike and I am between those 3 bikes (Trek, Scott, Giant), they are at the same price level (3.5ish K), I will be riding mainly at Manly Dam, I am 1.76mtr and 60 Kg.

Does it fit and feel ok? Shop should help you here.
Warranty, length, what does it cover.
Local bike shop, where would you buy it from, is it convenient to home/work or can you get it serviced close if you buy it from elsewhere?
Components.
My wife has just chimed in, what colour is it?

Something to get you started.

....I can't get past the fact that you are 1.76m and only 60kg.
I am 1.65 and 65kg and clearly need to cut out the choccies Sad

A Remedy 9 for $3.5k? jump on that straight away, the 7's retail for around that - excellent spec for $3.5k
I have ridden the Remedy and an older Reign, haven't ridden a Genius but they look the goods (don't like the look of a pull shock but I'm sure it works fine). Remedy is excellent, its definately not an XC whippet weighing around 13kg but does exactly what it was designed for - go anywhere, all day.
I would go the Remedy personally, but I ride a Fisher so I'm biased. Riding buddy is on a 2011 remedy 9 frame with mixed bag components from old rigs and he loves it.
Good luck.

Hey guys thanks for the quick reply,
@ae93gti I never thought in the warranty thing, I'll check it.
@Chitts, yeah, I'm pretty skinny. (and I used to be 56 but after a year of MTB I gain 4 kg)
@BLKFOZ. The only problem about the remedy price is that I have to go to SA to pick it up.

If someone has more comments/tips/recommendations, please let me know

Are you likely to race in the future?

What other trails are you likely to ride?

Will you do enduro's?

I had my GF sent over from SA, so if you have any Q's let me know.

For a 60kg rider doing Manly Dam. I'd say you definately don't need the Scott - you coud ride DH on that.

Both the others are on the long travel side as well so pedaling and light weight won't be a priority, that's not a bad thing as long as it's what you want.

I'd check out the bike weights, lighter might work better for you, and I don't think you're likely to break one.

From my experiance the virtual pivot/maestro style suspension (Giant) pedals better than most, but may not be as plush.

Hi Logan,
Yeap, I would like to do competitions in future. I don't know if at this time I'm fit enough to do it, but to give you an idea my best time at Manly Dam is 41min.
Cheers

I would suggest at looking at something that is lighter, personally you can ride the dam on a 4inch bike if you want.

Maybe look at a Trance or possible a Fuel Ex, I think they would serve you better and you can race well on those.

As for fit enough for racing, you can still do enduro's just you wont be finishing at the front, but if your only racing to complete the distance then it doesnt matter to much.

of travel is a good sweet spot for a general purpose dually.

Light enough to pedal well uphill, yet enough travel to ride all day. I thought about going for more (140-150mm) or less (100mm) but decided to stick with either 120 or 130 for my most recent purchase as being the best option for an all-rounder. Not so stretched out as to be a problem for my dodgy back, and comfortable enough for 50-100km enduros.

So that would put you in Trance X territory.

The Dam is definitley doable on a 4" bike.

If you can get get a remedy 9 for that price - walk to SA to pick it up! I have a remedy 8 2010 and it is the best thing I ever did (except get married.) The Talas means you can ride Manly Dam or Oxford falls Downhill fast. I have done 24 hours - 100K races etc and the remedy is awesome. All you need to do is change tyres and it is a completely different bike. Scott's break and I am afraid of that shock. Giant are great but it doesn't look as cool as the trek. Talas rules. C'mon - you know you want to go fast then drop off that cliff.

No - I am not endorsed by trek - Shame really.

A quality problem.....hmmm the giant (i am a giant fan) but the Trek looks filth....either way you cut it, you'll be gettin a hot bike.Forget manly Dam, you can go EVERYWHERE on either of these bikes. ........I'm jealous

guys, im riding a 150mm travel 2010 Marin attack trail which is on the heavier side although it suits the riding i like to do. I've been completing some enduro races, 4 hour races and 50km races. To challenge the whippets at the pointy end of the races you will need a bike that is lighter and powerful pistons although if you are competing to finish and trying to better your previous time, avg speed etc, a bike with 140-150mm travel is a big advantage. As the others have recommended, you can ride anywhere !! I'm stoked with my bike, i've ridden ourimbah DH on a saturday and then appin on a sunday and you are not sacrificing much at all. Some little extra weight is a small price to pay for confidence and handling underneath you. I ride Manly Dam every weekend and highly recommend the extra travel, haven't bottomed out yet or maybe I'm not trying hard enough...
