I went riding the other day and when i was cleaning bike afterwards i noticed that one of my rear spokes on the casset side was broken. It has snapped at the end where the thread is inside the nipple.
Can i fix this myself with basic tools (chain whip and casset tool) and a new spoke ofcourse, or do in need to take this to a bike shop. If the latter is the solution, is $30 for a repair job decent value?

I've broken 1 spoke before and just replaced it. my wheels were running true before the spoke broke so it replaced it tension just the one to get it true again. Seemed to work ok.

If I couldn't do it myself then I would pay $30 to get it done.

If you're reasonably handy & have the right tools its a simple job.
As you said the spoke is on the drive side, yes - you'll need a chain whip & cassette tool to remove the cassette to get access to the hub flange that the spokes are threaded through.
You'll also need a spoke key tool to tighten the nipple ( & remove the old one too, if its tight).
... and of course you'll need to get a replacement spoke that the same as your broken one.

Thankyou to both of you, i do have a spoke key in the garage and i'll buy a new spoke of the same size with a new nipple later today. Thankyou again Smiling

Take the whole wheel to the bike shop so they get the right size spoke. Buy 3.
