I just think the twit forgot to screw on his wheel properly!
It's sick I know, but I had to watch it a few times!
The wheel has separated from the bike before it even comes into view!
At least he walked away from it apparently unscathed
Uppers definitely separated from the lowers there. Very lucky to walk away. Another reason to keep the wheels firmly planted on the ground.
Only seen that once before at thredbo at a national round waaaaaaaay back.
Looks like the lowers pulled out completely from the upper stanchions.
I wonder if this was the result of a DIY fork service gone horribly wrong? All it takes is one or two (depending on the fork) bolts to fail and you too can replicate this cunning stunt!
There was a great post about servicing within the last couple of days, we should invite this bloke into NoBMoB for a few pointers. That's a great stack, worth at least a 9/10, given he has walked away and had full gear on, I did watch it a few times. Imagine "old mates" thoughts as he left the lip of the jump...
His mates would have bought him a couple of rounds for that one.
There is a similar video floating around of a lefty that explodes on landing. Top cap comes undone and the internal shoot out the top as the rider face plants..
As pointed out the wheel was done up fine but the fork lowers separate, either from something going wrong previously in the run or from dodgy maintenance
It's definitely an ahhhhhhhhhhh s@#t moment
... absolutely crapping myself midflight.
Sounds like a maintenance fail to me - not doing the top cap up firmly enough, and it's rattled loose on the trail. Goes to show ... no brand is immune to user error.
maybe it's a jackass style of stunt!
