Ive yet to read it, but here you go. Hope there is some good news for Mountain Biking.

You are receiving this email as you have expressed an interest in being updated on the Western Sydney Parklands Plan of Management.

The Parklands 10 year Plan of Management was adopted by the Minister for Western Sydney on 25 January 2011.

Over 840 people participated in the public engagement activities conducted during the exhibition of the draft Plan last year.

I would to thank everyone that took the time to attend a workshop or 'Have a Say' day; post comments on our online forums; complete a survey; or provide a written submission. Your feedback has assisted the Trust in developing a Plan that will guide the key priorities and actions for the Parklands over the next 10 years.

Over the coming years the Trust looks forward to working with individuals and groups in implementing the actions in the Plan.

The Plan is now available. You can:

View the Plan on the Parklands website by following this link: http://www.westernsydneyparklands.com.au/page/pl... .
Phone 9895 7614 or email the Trust on enquiries@wspt.nsw.gov.au to get a hard copy of the Plan sent to you.

If you have any questions about the Plan please feel free to call Yolanda Gil on 9895 7179 or email her on yolanda.gil@wspt.nsw.gov.au.

Had a quick scan of it this afternoon and from a riders perspective nothing new compared to the draft before submissions were received. Talks of investigating mtn biking in the area near Abbotsbury and the desired outcomes described for some other areas of the parklands are loosely worded enough so as to not exclude the possibility of mtn bike tracks. Could be wrong but I get the feeling mtn biking is not high on their list of priorities and the parklands will be full of cyclepath and very little if any legal singletrack for a while yet.

Abbotsbury Precint 10 - 708ha

Key management priorities : Investigate development of a mountain bike course.

Wouldn't the old 2000 olympic mountain bike course make some ideal riding....from memory people had to pay to use the Old Fairfield City Farm tracks. Hope this could be brought back to its former glory!

Yes - it is somewhat dissappointing. It sets out a number of lofty objectives - but really does not come up with many actions. We did particpate in the process and make two detailed submissions.

It is good that one of their 5 Objectives (Recreation and Parkland Infrastructure - which coincidently uses a an icon of a bike heading downhill!) includes "introducing new activities such as mountain biking" (p30). But then the only further mention of mountain biking is under Key Management Priorities for Precinct 10 - Abbotsbury (p64) which says "investigate development of a mountain bike course". We'll be certain to lobby them for this to occur.

It is a pity that Precinct 14 - Cecil Park (p72) did not also mention mountain biking as a priority. This area is a natural for mtb - and it already has a road entry and parking area for the Shooting Centre.

There are lots of mentions of developing walking and cycle trails. I can really see the kids being encouraged to use the Park by one of their exciting Objectives (p34):

"Objective 4:
Encourage children and young people to use the Parklands
Key actions:
1. Develop educational programs and activities including schools and youth organisations focused on the environment, urban farming and healthy lifestyles.
2. Use new technologies including communications and interactive technologies to engage with children and young people.
3. Create nature-based spaces that encourage play and creativity."

I say give the kids a few local mtb parks linked by single track. That would really encourage usage!

The area around Cecil Park and near where the M7 and Wallgrove Road meet each other has some nice hills and looks it could be fantastic for MTB riding and it could run for many miles. And as mentioned it already has some amenities at the shooting range which could be an added bonus.

Needs only to be a couple of lines.

The area at Cecil Park west of the M7 and south of Elizabeth Drive would be fantastic for MTB. It has:
- great transport from Sydney along the M7
- bike access along the Parklands cycleway
- already has access from Elizabeth Drive at the Shooting Centre, or just a bit further east along the access road to the water tank on the hill
- exsisting parking at the Shooting Centre
- great hills to be traversed
- lots of area
- open areas, which are being regenerated. So we don't have Endangered Ecological Communities. The area NE of the Elizabeth Dr/M7 has woodlands which are no-go areas for MTB.
- no existing users to clash with. While Mt Annan is nice - the primary focus there is the botanic gardens.

This area has the capcity to BETTER than Mt Stromlo for MTB. We have a city many times the size of Canberra, and yet we have NO public MTB centre.

So, I encourage riders to email WSPT and lobby specifically for MTB - not just cycleways. I'll certainly be pushing IMBA/MTBA in this direction as well.
