Extending steerer tubes

Ok, this may be a stupid question, but does anyone know if it is possible to extend a steerer tube on the top of a fork?

No I didn't stuff up. I'm looking at using a fork, cut down to suit one frame, on another one but the steerer tube on the second frame is about 30mm longer. So the drum is, the fork will still fit but would only go about half way into the stem clamp, not far enough I think, so I want to try and extend the tube. Fortunately I still have the original piece I cut off, which I'm thinking could be welded back on.

Any advice or reccommendations welcome.

I believe steerers can be replaced so a reputable machine shop ought to be able to sort that out for you. They are pressed in I think.
I would want to be confident of the shop that does it for you being a fairly integral part of the biking process. Good luck with it. Let us know how you get on.

there are tube extenders available that clamp onto the fork tube and extend another 50mm or so. Supreme Cycles in Narrabeen have them.

Will keep toying with this plan then for the moment.

Any other suggestions, ie wleding the two peices back together or where this can be done well enough for this application, are welcome.
