BMCC October Business Paper

Well the Business Paper for the October meeting is out. I was hoping for it to be a decision on the final everything but it is just another take note of progress meetings while we are waiting on feedback from the Commonwealth.

Oh well things seem to go slow... very slow.

Have a read as it covers the details of the community consultation phase and some other points of issue. I have attached a smaller pdf so you don't have to download the whole business paper from the BMCC website.

Recommendations:

1. That the Council receives and notes the information contained in this report;

2. That the Council refers the REF to the Commonwealth seeking a peer review and
concurrence under the federal Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act
(1999); and

3. That a further report is brought before the Council once a response has been received
from the Commonwealth.

Well the recommendations were supported by the councillors so it will go to the Commonwealth.

Clr Luchetti and Clr Greenhill voiced support for the behaviour of riders over this extended approval stage.

Clr Greenhill asked of staff that the next stages be handled as effeciently as possible so we get a result sooner rather than later.

Clr McCallum voiced his concern that the Commonwealth assessment will just be an automatic rubber stamp. Staff assured the commonwealth will assess and determine whether it is a "Controled Action" that will require a 28 day exhibition and public comment on the internet.

Personally I think a rubber stamp from the Commonwealth wouldn't be good for us as we want to make sure that this is convincingly approved on its merits, as that will be most beneficial in the future.

All in all, a successful evening even if it isn't a final result.
