That is a solid hit.

I was coming down the side of a mountain just outside of a town called Wellington about 45 mins north of Cape Town in South Africa when one of the locals 10 metres in front of me locked up and went OTB. He had flown around a corner and there were about 30 baboons on the track and in the bush. They can be nasty creatures so besides not wanting to hit them he rightly feared what would happen if he got too close!

BTW, the mtb'ing there is awesome, part of where the Cape Epic has been held between Wellington and Ceres.

When I did the BYBF in 2010 the guy in front of me missed being tackled from the side by a grey by about 2 metres, and when we got back to race control we heard about a girl who had to get choppered out after being collected.

After the near miss I was a-ringin' on my bell like a madman whenever I saw movement up front!

I was at the end of a peloton, when the first two riders were taken out, by a wobbly. Consequently all 12~15 of of us did a stacks on the first two riders! It wasn't pretty.
