So recently I have been riding my mates dual 29er around to get a feel for it to see if its for me and I have noticed a few differences to my hardtail 26er. I find that up hills it a lot slower and takes a lot more energy to get up a hill on the 29er than my 26er. Is this due to suspension or wheelsize or am I just imagining things?

Why do all the riders In the tour ride big wheels I can't see them harping on about 26 inch wheels . When kulhavy won on a 29 er it kept the anti 29 crowd very quiet . Times are a changing so are wheel sizes Smiling

Being curious I took a few 29ers & 26ers out at the Specialized demo day today just to see for myself.
My feelings were that for what the 29ers lost in pick up was more than gained by their terrain smoothing. Even on the rocky ascents I didn't seem to get snagged as much as usual.
That said I wasn't happy with the balance of the suspension on the $10k duallie and had more fun on the super light hard tail.

The bottom line is that there's still no "Ultimate solution", well, for me anyway. Sure, the super light 29ers would be fastest in certain conditions (Such as most WA XC races) but I learnt today that my sorted 26ers are pretty damn good.

At this moment the rider (Me) needs most work!

Good article, thanks. Presents a fairly objective view of what I've tried to describe.

The link in your posting didn't work for me. Hopefully this one does.
