Can anyone tell me the make up of the 2012 Sram XX shifters. My question is, can the down shift lever be repositioned and used like Shimano ie. index finger down shift, or is all Sram thumb press for up and down shifting?

I've got XTR on another bike and much prefer the shifting on that!

SRAM trigger shifters are thumbs for up and thumbs for down. That way you can use your fingers for other things such as braking, steering and holding on Eye-wink

SRAM also make twist shifters called "grip shift"

Thanx guys for the replies, looks like I'll just have to convert. Sounds like I had it wrong, must have been shimano that could be used either way (thumb or index finger). New bike hopefully this week with complete sram. Cannondale Scalpel Carbon 1 29er. Can't wait!!!

Don't switch - I went from Shimano to SRAM and found once got used to thumbing it - there was no problem - came to like the way the SRAM could drop three gears with one push.
