I am looking at getting a Dean Titanium Duke 29er. I have been looking at Dean for a while and just found out they have a Australian distributor. Has anyone else got a Dean?

They've been around forever, before alu and carbon and they used to make the sexiest bikes ever.
I'm a carbon man now but Dean Titanium have a great history and pedigree.

Look at the welding. Beautiful!

I have a Dean titanium bike on order and I think that anyone contemplating purchasing one should pay attention to my experience.

After working out the details of my bike and agreeing to the specification, I placed my order and paid Dean Titanium Bikes five thousand dollars US (about two-thirds of the expected final price). That was at the end of March 2010 (more than two years ago). I am still waiting.

Maybe my Dean bike will materialise and I will treasure it forever, but I doubt that I will ever consider such a wait as having been worthwhile.

Good one mate,
I don't know Dean but I know David Berry was created 40min ago.
I also know no one in the world charges $5000 up front for a custom frame, let alone a total price of that much.

Good one troll

Trolling here too: http://www.adelaidecyclists.com/profile/DavidBer... about 19hours ago

$5000 is very expensive even for a custom Ti frame. The frame I am looking at is a Duke 29er which the Australian distributor is selling for $3100 which includes shipping.

at least try a name like Ben Dover,Wayne Kerr or Jack Doff to give some authenticity to BS

You can get really cheap titanium frames from here.
http://www.xacd.com.cn/index1.htm
They do custom frames too.

Warning, their website is REALLY slow.

Email them for a price list. They make all sorts of stuff.

I love my Lynsky Ti hard tail. Not sure who brings them into the country now but they do 26ers, 29ers and 650b.
Can even do custom builds. Should at least check out their site. The Lynsky brothers were the original makers of
Light speed bikes.

I actually know a Dave Berry so I will check with him if that is genuine or the Troll is very coincidental.

Back to the the OP 's question.

Today - a little over two years and eight months since placing my order with Dean - I have been advised that my frame is "getting ready to ship off to paint".

That's long-awaited good news and a clear indication that the frame is complete. I've also received the final invoice.

There is most likely a wait of a month or two before I can "go ride".

I have high expectations of the finished product. I shall keep the forum posted.

Wow! I bet you'd given up hope you'd ever hear that news.

Did they provide any clue as to the reason for the extraordinary delay?

David Berry's picture

It's now six months since my last post in which I hoped that the long wait was nearly over.

I'm still waiting. A month ago I was emailed a photo of the complete bike. Yes, it is real and looks fabulous... but it is still on the far side of the Pacific. Maybe, I should jump on a plane for Colorado and go for a ride in the Rockies.

Wow that is a lot of money, I am still waiting on a frame I ordered from an Aussie builder in 2009, won't get it.

i know i am new around here but wasnt there a local perth builder looking to make Ti frames? i remember him saying up to $1k for a frame . . . . thats custom and TI.... maybe i'm confused but $5k for a frame is asking a lot (pun not intended)

The price of my Ti frame from Dean is US$2350. That's fame only to which you add fork, wheels, groupset and a whole range of other high-end components, accessories and even travel case which bring the full price (excluding airfreight) to $8002.50.

Make no error, this is a dream bike and the photos received from John at Dean Bikes indicate that the finished bike is definitely worth the very high price.

Shocking communications and customer service.

Makes you wonder what would happen if it ever developed a fault.

Just sayin'...

There's no way I would deal with a company with such dodgy communications.
I don't care how nice their bikes are.
There are loads of quality titanium frame builders out there so there's no need to deal with arseholes.

I just found this site when looking at other bike bits. www.titaniumbikes.com.au and there seems to be a linked online site www.titaniumbikes.net.au. There are some very different bikes on here. I just looked at the facebook page and their is a super nice single speed with green wheelset, seat and grips.
