Sammy's new bike thread- Mountaincycle San An 2.0 and Zen II
After a loooooooong wait, the first of my two new frames turned up this week and is mid build. Just need a front mech and a 38/26 chain ring combo for the front and we are all sweet to roll. Fortunately the trails are wet so I don't feel like I am missing anything on the riding front.
So here is new bike #1, the Mountaincycle San An 2.0. Most of the build came from the MC Battery donor bike. The frame has 6.5" of travel and is overkill for glenrock, but it should be a smooth ride.
Bike #2 which is should be in customs is a Mountaincycle Zen with 5.5" of travel. I'll post pics of that when it gets here. Pics are in post 18.

Interesting frame design. Not your run-of-the mill bike
Although there's one thing I'm confusd about. Either you're 12 feet tall, or that's a small shed.
I think you first mentioned this bike in the old forum.
That will look good with mud all over it.
EMPY, the bike your referring to is the one that is still in transit. I should have it by the end of next week.....I hope. I've. Even saying that for a long time.
Hawkeye, bike looks better in the flesh, but your right, getting a super-extra-large when I ride a medium may turn out to be a mistake.

Didn't even know they were still around to be honest. Good to see. I wonder if a stone hits the down tube it still makes a deafening clang.
The seat tube brace from the top tube is very San Andreas. What sort of weight are we talking about here Sammydog? This is to ride up and down the local trails? You might need to bring it home next visit some new black/ double black lines are popping up over here (legal too!).
That's an interesting bike I've never seen one like that before, is it a new or old design?
Scratchy, Its sitting at just under 14kg's. I could lose a lot of weight through changing forks and the wheels aren't the lightest but I like them. Overall, sub 14kg's I am happy with for what I will be doing with it.
This will likely be the last Mountaincycle after the company was sold and the stock seems to have been liquidated.
The Zen when it gets here in a week will be a lot lighter with 5.5" of travel and will be my general trail bike.
I'll be using the San An as a DH/AM bike I can pedal back up, which is why I need to change the chainrings from 42/30 to 38/26. Thinking of things like riding to the top of awaba and using the DH trial and things like that.
I'm selling a few old frames if people are interested (Norco Faze 1, Mountaincycle Battery, Trek VRX200).
Geoff63, its a current model design. probably the last bikes to come out of mountain cycle.

Last bikes??? it didn't work out???
Long story short, Parent Company sold MC, New owners got rid of all the employees, bikes got liquidated and its all gone quiet.
I've got my hands on a San An and a Zen, won't see many on the trails out here.

Maybe mountain cycles went broke because their marketing people didn't make the link between mtb riders and those who wanted to have children?
Its actually not as high as it looks, but if your riding with the crown jewels down there, I think your going to crunch them no matter how low the TT is.
Bikes finally done.
Complete build shots are in the first post. Pretty happy with the end result, just need the trails to dry out now.
Bike looks fantastic in real life, much better than in the photo's. Wish I had the coin spare to get one.

This one is the Zen and its a couple of parts short of being complete. Ordered a Stans wheelset as well so the two bikes don't have to share wheels.
And finally, ready for its maiden voyage today.

Had to roll into Drift on the way to the trails to fix a few minor issues, then when I finally met Mick at the gates, he pointed out a few other issues.
Bit of quick wrench work on the trails and it was sweet.
Bike was awesome. Probably need to flip the headset around to +0.5 degrees, rather than the -0.5degree setting its on. Other than that a few tweaks to the rear suspension and it should be sweet.
Probably prefer the Zen to the San An, but they are very different bikes.
