Its a technology thing.....Similar to when surfboards went from single to twin fin and then to the thruster.

technology thing.. preference thing.. I gotta have the bling thing.. marketing thing?

just get one or two of each.. coz you really know that in the end it's all just an N+1 thing..

And now it's four fins, sometimes five fins, then back to twin fins (fish), single fins (mals) and no fins (spongebob squarepants aka bodyboards)... and then we've got those stand-up paddle boards things, and tow boards.

Methinks specialisation would be more accurate.

As an example CRC have just under 400 tyre options for 26", just over 50 for 29" and dot for 27.5". It may take off, but I'd say that's a couple of years off yet at best.

Plenty of options out there now for tyres, forks and wheels and lots of the big names will be releasing their 2013 650b bikes in the next month or two so I think the wave is almost here. Ive actually been thinking of converting my Superlight to 650b as it's relatively cheap and a bit of a change

And according to AMB, page 18, Scott have stopped making a 26" Genius model and replaced them with the 650B Smiling

But they have also offered a 29er. It will be interesting to see what happens with the 650 option!

Rocky Mountain have had thier press release for thier '13 bikes, the 650b was well backed and should see a good middle ground for those that want a good compramise between 26" style handling and 29" style rolling. I myself am a 26" man (it's not the size that counts... Or is it?), I don't do a lot of fire trail riding for my day to day riding, more technical sort of stuff. But I do some Enduro stuff on a different bike, also a 26" and I've kept it 26, coz I love the handling. I'm not a massive fan of the 29er handling, but love the rolling of them. They just seem so much more efficient. I'm really keen to try out a 650 to see if it really is going to be a good compramise.
