Update from Trail Care
Red Hill: Simon K
Trail Care is continuing toward the development of a XC circuit trail near the Sport and recreation lands and a connecting trail to a Oxford Falls. Currently there is a trail audit being undertaken and options for access trail locations from and around the Sport and rec area. Simon is continuing to work with all the land managers to garner official support between all managers and set out the course of action.
Freedom Jumps: Trail Care
Although the Freedom jumps are no longer it has mobilised support for dirt jumps in the area and demonstrated the specific needs to council. Trail Care are continuing to work on development of a building template and guidelines for future rider build areas that will assist in risk analysis and compliance for Councils. At the final count the Freedom trails were in the wrong place to be able to provide a sustainable solution.
Manly Dam: Steve S
After 3 years Trail Maintenance days are back at manly dam with the first being Sunday September 8th. The resumption of maintenance days is an important step to returning a regular maintenance program to Sydney's most used and only legal trail resource. RSVP essential and numbers limited to 15. There will be BBQ provided so get your gloves a ready for some real dirty work at last. RSVP to info@trailcare.com.au
Menai: Perren D
Progress, while slow has been good with it now being a matter of documentation and legal agreements. While it is still painful to not be able to ride (yes still off limits) there is to be a working bee to begin trail maintenance and consolidation in the area so there is a network in place once agreements are signed.
If your keen (guys and gals) email ssorc@hotmail.comand we'll start logging names and level of interest. Limit of 15 so please be patient.
Oxford Falls: Matt W
Big thanks to all riders who have kept away from the Moon Rock trail. Metropolitan Aboriginal Land Council (MALC) is a major landowner in the Oxford Falls and Red Hill regions, and there is a great deal of importance placed on demonstrating rider-level respect for areas of cultural significance. (which Moon rock is) Riders may have also noticed new MALC signs on the Lizard Rock side of Morgan Road - please respect those signs also.
Trail Care is continuing to liaise with MALC, and progress is being made towards formalizing access for trails in the Oxford Falls area. This includes both projects linking all mountain trails between Oxford Falls and Red Hill, and working towards an understanding concerning the downhill/freeride trails. Trail Care is also involved with a newly formed senior trail management committee for the downhill/freeride trails, incorporating a number of past and present trail builders, advocates, and other specialists. The committee is contactable at OxyTrailFeedback@groups.facebook.com. The committee has recently installed a new sign including a revised code of conduct, risk warning and trail map.
