One day I'm just going to ride out my garage and end up in Melbourne (through the Snowy's). Seeing stuff like this makes me even more determined to make that happen.

277 kilometres a day? That's mental indeed Shocked

@phil, go take a look at crazyguyonabike. Lots of excellent information and inspirational stories there.

I read about one guy who just went riding after a relationship breakup and went Melbourne -> Adelaide -> Alice Springs -> Darwin -> Kimberleys -> Kalgoorlie -> Esperance -> Albany -> Perth. Took him over a year to do it. The blog was captivating.

The next 'Grand Depart' is rumored for Easter 2013. I am SO keen. I've been riding 30-50km bits here & there as I live close to the trail. (& 1 x 85km day) Note that I'm doing to small HuRT, 324km. Not the BIG HuRT which is much longer.

Anyone who is keen? Check out the site. It's outdated, but the facebook group is current.

On my 85km day ride, I averaged 12km/hr. This is not easy folks! Lots of fun, and even more Type II fun. Smiling

There was an article on the BIG HuRT in the inaugural Flow MTB issue.

Sounds like it hurt. I know Arran Pearson, and if a guy who represents Oz at the world solo 24s finds it hard (and he recorded a DNF) you wanna be well prepared Eye-wink

uploading a photo is probably really easy. But I can't figure it out. The GPX file shows a picture. Follow the bottom link.

P.S. Aaron Pearson did the BIG HuRT which undertook a lot more beating than the smaller version. 2 guys have managed to ride the entire small version overnight. The record stands around 26hrs from memory?

I love a good long ride and have been thinking I'll do a Melbourne to sydney ride one day non stop, mostly just to check that I can.

The thing that scares me is that every other ride that I've considered for some time I do end up doing.

The hurt ride sounds good too so I'll have to look into that some more.

I have been doing some training with the 2013 world solo's in mind but have a way to go.

John.

Phil

I have a friend who wants to do the TD and the idea of doing it has been bouncing around in my head for a while now.

BUT, how can an Australian test themselves and their gear before leaving? I've been looking for a long mountain/divide trails and have come to the conclusion that it's time to just make one.

Looking at a map you can see the 'green' on the map. National Parks and forestry land going south and then looping around and approaching Melbourne from the north east. Looking closer you can see where the divide is. Rivers flow east and rivers flow west. It's just a question of getting your hands on good topo maps that include fire trails and forestry roads.

Surely we could do it. I hate it when the Americans have something that we don't.

Hey Colin, there is this trail network which is probably the easiest route to follow.

You could mix it up a bit and divert away to other areas
