Hi, I have installed an XT Derailer and SLX gears. I am finding the gear changes to be very stiff. I have made a variety of adjustments to the screws with no luck.

Can you mix the components or is the spring in the XT a lot stronger.

Any advice would be great. Hoping to make it easier to shift for my dad (73yrs), who loves Long trail!!

should be really sweet.

Did you also change the Inner & outer cables? did you ride in mud recently?

Pull the inner cable out, clean it, lubricate it with some grease and re-try. It might be easier to buy a new inner if the derailleuer end is frayed. They're only a few dollars.

Anthems brake lines are notorious for getting clogged. I'd be inclined to change both. especially if ther are still originals It should be sorted for less than $30.

Or get into these....that should be the end of clogged cables on your Lovely Anthem

Gore RideOn cables for the win. Smooth shifting awesomeness, weather and mud proof.

Like clipless pedals, you'll never go back.

I've rolled them out to all our bikes. Saves me hours in shed faffing about with shifting issues. Just replace every 18 months - 2 years, and never need to touch them in between.

Mind you I don't mind messing about with bikes in the shed for hrs without achieving much, as long as there is Scotch or Bourbone invoved.....I'll happily adjust the same derailour for hrs on end without success. LOL.
