hi there,

when buying a new headset, does the fork crown race normally come with the headset? i am talking about the part that gets pressed onto the bottom of the steerer tube.

Also, are they specific to the headset? or are they all the same?

I have just swapped forks over from 2 different bikes and the forks dont seem to fit properly at the bottom of the head tube (where the crown race fits into the head tube ) . I probably need to also swap over the crown race if they are different. So that the correct crown race is matched with the correct headset (assuming they are different??).

So confusing what headset to buy ??? There seems to be so many different sizes. I assume it is just a matter of measuring the inside diameter of the head tube and maybe the outer. and of course the steerer tube (1-1/8) .

any comments would be great . Thanks.

The bottom race needs to go with the headset it came from. While some look similar there can be small differences that can screw up the whole show.

Easiest way is head down to the LBS. Unless you know exactly which headset you need, I'd be going down to your LBS and getting it through them. Guarenteed it will be correct.
