I'll be there, no matter what the weather.
Ride Database Entry:
Kinross State Forest
Meeting Point:

The city of Orange is around 4 hrs from Sydney and 3 hrs from Canberra. Kinross State Forest is situated on the northeast edge of town, a 10 minute drive or 20 minute ride from the Orange town centre.

Meet at the Bulgas Road carpark, Western edge of the forest.

Drive out from Orange on the Ophir Rd, before you reach the rubbish tip, turn right onto Bulgas Rd. Follow this about 2km to the forest (the road turns to gravel).

Note that the 'Directions there' google maps link below may not give the best route/destination. It seems that google maps ignores Bulgas Rd when selecting a route and gives the next closest spot. The 'Meeting point' link should be correct.

Details:

I wasn't sure what to call this but I think a 'Mini Gravity Enduro' is an apt description. We wanted to give this event a go to see what all the hype is about.

The general idea:
- all trails are XC trails (DH bike not required but possible with hard work, a XC hard tail would also be fine)
- there will be un-timed mainly uphill sections and timed mainly downhill sections
- the timed sections will include some uphill, but not much
- there will be about 4 timed sections that will be maximum of 1-3km each

The idea is you can ride the un-timed sections with your mates and brag about how good your run just was.

*update*:
Cost: $10 (+ $20 day license for non-MTBA members)
Categories: - Mens/Womens/Juniors. There'll be a separate hard tail category.
- Also there's a B category that will only do stages 1 and 2 (same as juniors). This would be suitable for those that are newer to MTBing or don't want to climb the big hill.
Starting: Standing start, self seeding, with 30s gaps between riders.
Overtaking: If you are caught by a rider get out of the way as soon as safely possible.
Timing: this will be different to other events because of the spread out timing points required. It's based on synced watches/clocks at the start/finish. The raw start/finish times will be put onto a card that you carry then collated at the end. Depending on the number of helpers we get you may be timing yourselves or each other.

For those that know the forest and track names:
Stage 1: North Shore - the last downhill we use for many races (~1km, 65m elevation drop)
Stage 2: Highest point in goat track, down the steeper section then across the road down Owen's Rest and to the car park (1.4km (~80m elevation drop), my time is about 3:20mins)
Stage 3: Head South East from the highest point in forest down to start of John Doe, Down John Doe (there's an uphill pinch here) then down the old 'race track' to the dam (~3km, ~160m elevation drop)
Stage 4: North Shore again, same as stage 1.

**update again**
Start Time: Sign on from 9:30am, we start up the hill at 10am.

Category B and Juniors will do stages 1 and 2 (and not do stages 3/4).

Note that we've changed the order of stages 2 and 3 (the big stage is now stage 3). This is to better cater for B grade and Juniors, their two stages will be done first, then the rest of us can complete the next two stages.

Un-timed link sections: To make life easier for marking out we will do the un-timed uphill transport stages as a group. This will make the event take a little longer but will make for a more social time, be more welcoming for beginners and make it safer with everyone together, especially for juniors and beginners.

That sounds freckin rad

FYI the course is coming together.

We raked some of stage 3 today (it had too many pine needles), it's 1.4km long (~80m elevation drop), it took me 3:20mins to ride top to bottom.

Stage 1 and 4 will be the old familiar North Shore track (about 1km I think). This is the track we normally use to finish a XC loop on (for GN250 and STM races). The stage will be repeated because it is fun and familiar. It will make a good warm up stage before the longer stage 2.

Stage 2 will be the biggest and excellent. It will take a while for us to climb to the top of it but will be worth it. I haven't measured it yet.

For those that know the forest and track names:
Stage 1: North Shore
Stage 2: Head South East from the highest point in forest down to start of John Doe, Down John Doe then down the old 'race track' to the dam.
Stage 3: Highest point in goat track, down the steeper section then across the road down Owen's Rest and to the car park.
Stage 4: North Shore

Great idea. Love those trails. It's on the same weekend as STM Awaba so a little bummed I have to miss it. Might be worth a try when you go back to Thursday twilight races.

Note the recent update to the description above.

The stage order has changed and we'll be riding the untimed sections as a group.
