so i got my new bike, all is fine except its auto shifting gears ( i think)
when i stand up and pedal hard or sit and pedal uphill it seems to change gear but doesnt change fully. ive googled and it seems like it could be a chain or derailleur problem. is it an easy fix or should i take it into my lbs and get them to sort it out?

sounds like a simple adjustment issue.

I'm assuming you are refering to the rear gears. Issue sounds like you rear derailleur cable tension needs a slight adjustment. Check out some you tube how to videos

Sounds like the cable tension is being affected by movement in the suspension or handlebars. Check the routing of the cable, if it's moving excessively then it can cause the tension on the derailleur to change. Shimano gears are more prone to cable movement as they have a small change in cable length to change gears (compared to SRAM).
