Gday, my name is Gus and I am living around the Orange area. I'm looking to get started in XC mountain biking. I have purchased a second hand Specialized Pitch Pro, in as new condition, and am wanting to get out for a ride whenever I can but not sure how to start being at the beginner level.

Cheers

Gus

Keep an eye on the calendar and join in on a ride or post your own asking for a tour guide.

Or
Turn up to a clubbie they are fun and you'll meet a bunch of like minded persons

I would say to ride around in easy road or trail first and get used to the brake, gear and steering. You may need to adjust your seat, headset and bar etc. I find protective gear saved me a few times. Nevertheless, ride with friends is always a good idea.

I just came back from a weekend in Orange. There are some great tracks that people have build in the Kinross State Forrest. Reach out to the local mountain bike club, I met lots of very friendly people on the two days that I was in Orange. You can try to connect to Grantd who is a user on this site.

Cheers,
Volker

Thanks Rossco, I went for a ride today and did those things. I am borderline on having a medium or large bike, having shorter legs I went with the medium. May need to adjust or buy a longer stem. I will see how it goes after a few more rides.

If your stem or bar has angle, u may try to put it upside down or try wider bar. Personally I use short stem with wide bar to give sharper steering. But the downside is likely to clip tree in narrow track or riding on shoulder of trail, especially with bar end.

Anyway, have a look at classified, u may find some gold.

Hiya,

There's a few regular rides at Kinross that I know of. I mostly go Thursday mornings these days.

I'll reply to your pm.

cheers,
Grant
