Noise when climbing
NB: Originally posted elsewhere on the Global Riders Network and appears via syndication.
Hi Team,
Recently my bike is making some noises when climbing.
It's only when really grinding up a steep hill.
To me it sounds like the brake discs are rubbing the pads and making the noise.
But when looking over the bike both discs run freely through the pads, no rubbing at all.
Really annoys me on my night rides cranking up the hills in Cascades and you get the squeak squeal noises.
Any ideas on what to look at?
Bike is Specialized Camber Expert Carbon Evo (2014).
Cheers,
Mike.

Check that the QR's are done up really tight. You can find that when you're cranking on you get a bit of lateral movement which causes disk rub
maybe check spoke tension. If they're slightly loose, there could be movement in the hub and therefore rotor.
Sure its not just you breathing harder…?
I noticed you never use bike rake and need to put wheels back on. I guess it is qr to loose or tight.
Or too much Chinese food again:>
Could be your BB? If it's a press fit shitmano one they like to squeak after a while.
I had that problem. Took me ages to diagnose it. It sounded like rotor rub and drove me crazy.
So to isolate the problem I unbolted one caliper and taped it up out of the way. Still had the noise. Tried the other end. Same result.
Turned out it was loose straight-pull spokes in the rear wheel.
Thanks for all the tips guys.
I'm out of the county at present but will check each thing to try and eliminate the issue once I'm back.
Cheers
Mike
ps. No more Chinese for me before riding Ross
@mikebl, check your chainstay pivot bolt and maybe the other pivots too. I had a squeak I only noticed whilst climbing recently and it turned out to be a loose chainstay pivot. That was on a 2011 Epic.
