Howdy peeps.

Long time no post.

I was wondering if anyone could give me a few pointers for Mt York. I'm looking to go up there on Sat. We want to ride up Lawsons's Long Alley from the pub then down Lockyers.

Is riding up Lawson's a straight forward affair, or is there anything special we need to look out for.

Anyone is welcome to join of course.

Cheers
Andrei

I'm guessing you don't do the strava thing but here is a link; http://app.strava.com/activities/144821240

I recommend starting at the top of Lockyers - there is a carpark there. Just turn right off the highway where the sign for mt York is and the car park is on the right a few kms down the road.
Lawsons is the big fireroad on the right, Lockyers is the single track that starts kind of parallel to the road. Ride down, keeping right at the early forks. Turn right when you hit the very bottom on the road and follow your nose to Lawsons - there is a bit of singletrack early but then it's just a fireroad climb that you'll be walking a lot of.
Cox's descent is awesome too - start from the lookout/abseiling area and just ride down. You eventually find the bottom of Lockyers.
The climb up Lockyers is much more ridable and enjoyable than the Lawsons climb in my opinion too.

The ride up Lawsons is reasonably easy to find.

Head down hill from pub, pretty much straight across the road where it veers left around the pub and through the gate.

Along fire/access road until you come to another gate. Up to the right, through a styl and you start the first short section of single trail. It pops back out onto the road for 10meters or so and look for the trail off to the right again. Follow this right through until you come to a fire road near a house and follow the fire road up to the right. Steeper and steeper until you crack.

As Ian says, I think Lockeyer's is the better ride up. You do all the hard stuff at the bottom, have some fun flowy stuff in the middle and a steady grind towards the top.

Where as Lawsons you get a cruz at the bottom then all the hard stuff at the top, and while it is a pretty gully and has some nice bits it isnt as fun as lockyers.

My perferred loop from the bottom of Berghoffers, link up 1,2 or all the othert trails then finish with a fast fun cruz down berghoffers
